Guinea Pig Limping and not putting weight on front paw.

How much does he weigh?
How experienced is the vet?
I'm only asking because with cat metacam, depending on his weight, this dosage is not as high as it could be and particularly if he is only having that amount once a day.

He's around 900g as he's quite young still. Our vet has a certificate in small animal medicine so I guess she's fairly experienced

I would ask if he can have it twice daily. They have a fast metabolism so having one dose won’t last the whole day.
I will see if that's a possibility. I'm just so stressed about him all the time. I want him to get better so much

Obviously only a vet can prescribe, but it does sound to be a low dose to me particularly if he still seems to be in pain. It is going to take a few days for him to want to start to put weight on it though
They have a faster metabolism so can take higher doses and they can take it every 12 hours.

As you may have seen on my previous post Picchu hurt his leg and was taken to the vet Tuesday and has been on Loxicom ever since (0.2ml a day with 0.3ml on the first day). I'm not really seeing very much improvement but not sure if this is normal and how long these things take to heal etc as it's my first time with vets and meds etc. Should we have seen some improvement by now or not? Called vet and they said he's on the biggest dose he's allowed for his size and weight etc. Worried sick and so stressed about him😪😪

Hi!

Depending on the severity of a sprain recovery can take several days or several weeks (up to 3-6 weeks). Please be patient.

PS: I have been limping for 4 weeks after badly spraining my big toe; it is only after 6 weeks that the swelling is starting to go down fully I am getting more mobility in the joint again... The same also goes for guinea pigs, as I know from sprains in my own piggies.

That's encouraging to know. I just hate to think of him in pain as he's my baby and I would do anything to stop him hurting 😔 I hope you're feeling better as well x

Thank you. My foot is thankfully better again and I can use more than just one pair of (wide) shoes without limping!

You may find that your piggy can aggravate things again by injudicious movements once they are getting back to normal movement. Sprains and bruising can unportunately take its time. :(
