I've had a guinea pig since birth, and he loves human affection. Everytime I open his cage he jumps into my arms. I'm unsure if this is unusual or not because I have had guines pigs before whomb are usually quite shy and timid. I was wondering if anyone else has a guinea pig which does the same ?

Hello welcome to the forum.

Certainly not the norm, our piggies are friendly but would never do that. One of them still runs away if I go to touch her and I respect her wishes, my other girl loves a fuss and will let me pick her up now but it has taken several years. It sounds like you have a lovey bond with your piggy.
Be lovely to see a photo of your piggy, what is their name?

Mine will all ‘ask’ to be picked up from their carrier when they know they’re going back into their cage by ‘meerkat-ing’, one will hop up my arm when I lower my hand to her. Not so keen at any other time!

I used to have one (an Abby- is anyone surprised?!) that would launch herself up at you when we opened the lid of the outside run to put them away. She’d get a good foot and a half off the ground and you used to have to catch her like a rugby ball!

Hello and welcome, it sounds like you have a fabulous bond. None of my piggies asks to be picked up - in fact although they are all very friendly I have to chase each of them to catch them.

I've got one piggy- fuzzy butt (fuzz) and she's the only one who will run to me when I call her from another room and lean up my leg if I'm standing up or if I Crouch down, crawl into my hands when she wants to be put back in her cage.

Both my boy Finn and Lara will come running to greet me all the time. Mine are super friendly.
I stay by their side all the time when I am home, even sleep in the same room with them sometimes. They love the attention and I love to stay with them so it works out for us. Bless them.

My Jess will do the same with climbing up arms and jumping on my knee to get picked up (other than when meds were going on!) as knows she’s either coming out for playtime or something tasty to stuff in her little face! 🙂

It's lovely to hear that other people experience the same thing, as a pet owner it's really rewarding to have an animal trust you so much, thanks for sharing.

Yes guinea pigs can be very different. i have one that is only just letting me touch her face now and the other loves being touched and rubbed, she never runs away from me. I can do anything with her because she trusts me so much. Its lovely to have a guinea pig that is so close. Sounds like you have an awesome guinea pig with that one.
