Dental Guinea pig grinding teeth post dental treatment

Update:

Maisie is starting to voluntarily eat hay now which is great. She seems back to her old self and gaining weight with no CC

Unfortunately we have just noticed an issue with our other pig, Mila. When it rains, it pours. It looks like she’s having difficulty pooping and it’s causing her discomfort. She goes up on all fours and jolts a little with a bit of a squeak. We’ve inspected her bum and she’s passing a little blood. It’s dark, but all around her bum. We’re at Simon’s clinic next Friday for Maisie’s check up so we’re thinking of bringing Mila too. We’re going to keep an eye on her tonight and tomorrow and if we need to we’ll take her to someone local.

Great to hear Maisie is doing so well, this sounds really encouraging news
So sorry Mila is struggling, keep an eye out and weigh her along with Maisie and keep a record of her weight.
I think you may be best making a separate thread for Mila, the health team will then be able to reply and offer advice, hope it’s just a blip and she’s ok tomorrow

It could be urinary. My little white sow had a 'dirty bottom' for a while but I thought it was from basking in a soil-y patch outside. Then I realised some of it was blood stained. She had a simple UTI in this case - the dirt was because the soil stuck to damp fur. It was damp because she was dripping pee a lot. Girls look like they have a dirty bum because they pee backwards, but the boys get a wet and dirty tum as they tend to pee downwards.

It's also possible that there is a stone. Not necessarily in the bladder but in the urethra is quite possible. My girl passed one on her own - the first I knew about it was a little puddle of strongly blooded urine. Another girl had one manually extracted from her tubes with tweezers. Inflammation can make pooping painful too. It's important she sees the vet though to exclude problems with the lady parts. But in my pigs if I see this sort of thing I tend to think UTI first and it almost always has been - they would treat this with antibiotics and metacam.

Brave girls 💕
But aren't you causing your mummy and daddy to sweat!

Absolutely gutting news to share. We lost Maisie this afternoon, we’re both in total shock.

Having made excellent progress over the last 3 weeks having seen the wonderful Simon twice, Maisie started breathing strangely yesterday evening which continued into today see attached video from about 2 hours ago.

She responded well to the ABs and all the pain relief and the abscess was shrinking.

Thought it was a bit of bloat (her left side did look blown up) so we took her to the local vet for some checks. After a struggle to take her temp, he took her into the back room to get help from his assistant, a minute later he comes back to tell us she’s stoped breathing and was on air. Then we lost her.

He pointed out he could feel a mass on her left side … possibly ovarian cancer. Don’t know what to believe or feel at the moment.

Doesn’t look like it will allow me to upload the video from my phone.

Oh gosh I am so sorry, how tragic and Maisie doing so well over the last few weeks. Sending you big hugs, I can’t say what has happened but she will have known just how much you loved her

Sleep tight little lady 🌈

Bless her. I'm so sorry 😔 You did everything you could and that's what counts. Run free Maisie

Thanks everyone. Hurts really bad this one. Those that don’t have pigs just won’t understand. I was one, and know I know.

Oh I'm so sorry. You tried so hard, and she had the best care to make what turned out to be the last weeks of her life as comfortable as could be.
RIP little girl, you knew you were loved x
