'A guinea pig has been abandoned in the entrance to an underground station with a heartbreaking note reading 'I need a new owner'.

Says he seemed to be in good health and well cared for but alone and what a place to leave him. 😢

The staff found him and named him DiscoPig for whatever reason.

People are naive when they expect "good Samaritans" to come and help their abandoned pets. Many times cages are discovered open and animals loose.
Pet stores have to either ban sale of animals, or accept people bringing them back when kids get bored and cavies have outgrown the tiny cages...
Rant over. Just wanted to point out there's not always happy ending when people dump animals, oftentimes they literally sentenced them to death...

Poor little love but he is safe now. Around Ottawa people have found guinea pigs in the bush by walking paths.

Absolutely! I think there needs to be some kind of 14 day wait/cooling off period to stop people buying on impulse. Parents need to understand that ultimately it’s there responsibility to look after any pet they have bought for their children and man up!

Many will go to pet store because rescue told them their set up isn't suitable and aren't willing to improve the welfare of their pets. I really don't understand why pets at home don't take returns of unwanted pets they sold. After all, their shops have the rehoming section, but then they would be faced with just how many truly get dumped....

Some people give them away for free on Facebook and the like... unaware that some of the people taking them are only doing so because they intend to feed the piggy to their pet snake. Free food... 😢

Absolutely, they would be overrun too!

yes, it’s terrible and guinea pigs are really not suitable as a child’s pet unless the parent adores guinea pigs and actually wants them themselves
