Guinea pig eye closing

Update:
I hav gone through an entire treatment for her eye, and while it is more open before, I think her chronic ear infection has gotten worse again. HERE is the dilemma, She is a small pig, she has been through hell including gut stasis (because I gave her baytril and didn't know its horrible side effects without probiotics) Now, I was given Enrofloxcin (Baytril) that was to be used for a previous infection and for flare ups. I want to give it a try because maybe it can give her some relief, but I am terrified that it could kill her as well because she is so small and been through so much. I am not sure what I should do because both exotic vets I have seen have done everything they can to help her.

Hi, baytril is usually very well tolerated by guinea pigs and although in rare cases it might cause a tummy upset and a bit of weight loss it has a very low incidence of side effects and certainly is very unlikely to cause gut stasis. If you are worried that baytril adversely affects this particular piggy you can ask the vet for a different antibiotic, or for a gut stimulant to give alongside the baytril, or as you said give a probiotic (a couple of hours before or after the baytril). If your vet thinks your piggy needs an antibiotic you should give it, but you should also be having a conversation with the vet if you think it has unpleasant side effects for this particular piggy. Please be careful about generalising regarding "horrible side effects" which are in fact usually mild, and rare, as others may read this thread in future- we would not want anyone to be deterred from giving an essential and usually well tolerated antibiotic that is established to be safe for and is the only antibiotic licensed for guinea pigs on the basis of one unusual adverse reaction.

Thank you for clearing this up for me. I just didn't know who to trust anymore with the vets because after one bad experience I am terrified even when I have an exotic vet treating my pigs.
