Guinea Pig Dying

We have been to the vets!

Basically all looks well generally, she managed to hear some gut movement which is good, compared to the complete silence last night.
He got prescribed Emeprid and Fibreplex, he already has painkiller for his arthritis. She wanted to give me some support feed but they didn't have any in-stock, although I was to phone tomorrow if he was still losing weight. Thankfully my mum dug around and found an old packet (in date and unopened) from when my Digby needed it so he has so far had 5ml since we got back.
I plan to get at least another 5ml in him before I go to sleep but he hates the syringe unlike my Digby so it took almost 45 minutes to get all his meds/food in when we got back. I was already struggling with his 0.3ml of Metacam a day, haha.

He also got acupuncture which I found so, so interesting. Apparently she is the only one in the clinic that knows how to do it and although she mostly does it on cats and dogs, it is found that guinea pigs deal with it very well. I have never heard of this before!

I've got my fingers crossed that he just had a slip which then gradually declined, and that he will recover well with this medication.
I wont lie I have some major anxiety after my run in with stasis, with Digby. Basically he struggled for a month (with severe stasis) until he went under and we found out he had such wonky teeth they would need trimmed down every 2-3 weeks (because signs started to show again so quickly after his operation) and with GA, as I have no access to conscious dentals, it just was not a good idea to put him under every 3 weeks. So he got put down 3-4 weeks after his first and last dental.

Does anyone have any stasis success stories they would be willing to share? No worries if not!
Thank you all for your advice and help, hopefully its only up from here.

I have got several piggies through some pretty dire looking stasis. But it’s usually been 2 steps forward and 1 back and been a bit of a long haul.

I'm glad to hear that, it certainly is such a long haul. Were these all due to another ailment/illness in the body or can/has stasis ever just came out of the blue?

I never found the reason for Connie’s stasis. But once she was over it, she had a tendency for it to recur and we had to be very careful with her diet. But I nursed her through several episodes successfully. Ralph also had one complete stasis episode that came absolutely out of the blue. Never found the reason for that but he never had a recurrence once he was over it. Evie, however, had a full blown stasis due to torsion and could not be saved despite all our efforts.

So glad to hear that he has pulled through and the vet couldn't find anything particularly wrong with him. Hope it was just a blip 🤞🙏

If he doesn't like support feeding via syringe, will he take it from a spoon or dish?

I just wanted to say please make sure you are looking after yourself. These things can be exhausting, the lonely nights syringe feeding when it feels like you are the only person awake in the world, the stress and worry and the fact you can just forget to get any food for yourself. Keeping you and your lovely boy in my thoughts 🧡

I tried that but unfortunately he only took two bites but then walked away. I'm hoping he'll come round to the syringe.

When my Pepper refused syringe food, and she was as stubborn as they come, I put it on romaine lettuce like little canapés and she ate loads.
I find dipping the top of the syringe into something tasty like a banana or pepper and getting the juice on the nib can trick them a little too into accepting it!

How is piggy today? 🤞
He’s okay!

We are still really struggling to give him his medication/support feed. He’s only had 5ml today because of it.
He does seem to be eating some more on his own though, no weight loss since yesterday despite him only having 15ml yesterday.
