Sorry if this is in the wrong section or whatever, I'm pretty new to these forums.

I just bought a couple of lovely piggies from a pet store and I'm not sure if the shop owner was entirely honest with me about them. I ask only out of curiosity they get on extremely well - One my guinea pigs (Logan) is a black crested peruvian, straight, long long hair with an orange crest and other streaks of orange. The other (Harry) is a completely white Abyssinian (medium length hair lots of quiffs) and the shop owner says they are from the same litter? Is this possible? They look nothing a like - I'm simply interested the two of them are very affectionate of each other and get along great :D

Haha, it is totally possible! You say medium length hair on the abby? Abbys have normal length hair that's just crazy with rosettes pushing the hair in different direction. If the mum and the dad were different breeds and colours, then the babies could come out all range of colours and different hair types!

Here's a couple of pictures of my abbys and peruvians.

If the first piggy isn't one of the above, you mentioned crested, so he could also be a coronet. Peruvians have two rosettes on their bum that make the hair come up over their backs, like the last photo.

Here's a thread with some particularly scrummy Coronet pigs, just to show you; http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=73199

Thanks for the reply!

Yeah I think Harry may also be Peruvian then :L he has the rosettes in his hair but it still is really long compared to those abyssinians, Harry doesn't have a parting like Logan though! Harry also has a massive mohawk style thing going on around his bum (wobbles when he walks its very funny!)

Thanks for the help will post pictures soon :D

If they're crossbreeds it's quite possible that they're abbyruvians (abby x peruvian); it would explain the differences in hair types! Harry is likely to be an abbyruvian at least and Logan if he looks more like the top peru (the bottom Peru has had a severe haircut and will probably look like the top one when her hair grows back!) will be very close to a 'full' peru. That said, I think some perus just have seriously funky hairdos (like a very long haired abby!) so Harry could be one of those! I'm not that experienced with them; the two above are my first since I was very little and I've not had them that long! :)

Genetics do crazy things with guinea pigs; look completely different but still be brothers! :)) I can't wait to see pics of your boys, they sound scrummy! drool
