Phoebe (minipig) lives in one of our guinea pig rooms in a large enclosure (she still needs the heat lamp and to be inside for a few weeks)
anyhow she went on a destructive rampage last night, escaped her pen and basically pulled all the smaller cavy cages off the shelves and tables she could reach, which of course crashed to the floor leaving piggys flung everywhere :(

come down this morning to the mayhem. manage to round up most of the escaped piggys, no injuries to be seen (thank god) but shook up and scared.
all except one. mojito, who i couldnt find anywhere! eventually found her in one of the feed bins (where i store all the animals food) this happened to be dog food dry mix.
I'm now worried that shes ate a whole load (she has an extremely fulll tum)

this cant be good for her (high protein content, full of meat etc). what can i do?

Naughty Phoebe! Adventurous for all and more than a little stressful for you!

First thought, have you got an ingredient list for the dog food? It's unlikely that the dog food contains anything toxic to piggies but an ingredient list may help rule this out.

However, do watch closely for diarrhoea or bloat as the ingredients were probably pretty rich on her tum, I would suspect she will have a sensitive tummy for a day or two. If this was my own pig in this situation, I would half pre-empt digestive trouble. Limit the pigs dry food and ensure lots of hay. I would also limit veggies for a couple of days. Ensure you have a probiotic to hand, along with rehydration fluid and Imodium (loperamide) to deal with diarrhoea if it does happen. I believe Zantac (ranitidine) can also help with digestive problems, specifically soft poop, possibly diarrhoea. Also ensure you have something to help treat bloat (Infacol (simethicone), Buscopan).

Hopefully it'll all pass without incident, or she didn't help herself to any. Must have tasted good though if she did help herself!
