I'm kind of stressed right now. So i was doing this little thing where you peel the "foil" part off a gum wrapper and it can stick to things, and ive stuck it onto my phone case before so I did it again. However, I noticed lots of the pieces fell off, and I tried to clean the rug up but I guess I didn't do it well enough, cause my guinea pig was having floor time when she went into a corner and came out chewing really weirdly, like she was struggling to chew something. I was confused, until a tiny piece of whatever she was chewing fell out of her mouth, and I quickly realized she was chewing the foil! I'm not exactly sure if it even is aluminum foil, but it looks like it and has a similar (not completely SAME though) texture. She swallowed who knows how much, and I'm so worried now! She's been gassy and all ballooned up for a few days now, which is a reoccurring thing that happens (she's a gas-prone pig, don't worry the vets all know about it and we know what to do when she has a gas episode), and now something that is completely unknown and very possibly dangerous in her system. This literally happened five minutes ago, so obviously she's doing fine. But I'm so worried! Any advice/help? I'm so so so worried!

PS: there's a typo in the title, it should say "guinea pig ate gum wrapper/aluminum foil but for some reason my phone corrected it to that mess of a sentence. Also I've read that most gun wrappers are indeed made of aluminum foil, so hopefully that could help?

Often these things come without issue - my boys have managed to chew the rubber edge off my dust pan amongst other things - and the advice is generally to keep a close eye and ensure they are still eating and not showing any signs of pain.
However, because you aren’t going to be able to tell which thing is causing her any discomfort (gas or eating something she shouldn’t), you might want to have a word with the vet anyway about whether this is going to add to her problems.
Does she have any particular triggers for her gassy episodes?

My old piggies ate the rubber off the dustpan too... I still reckon it was Jemima... She was very mischevious

Always keep an eye on a Piggy that has eaten something odd. Watch for unusual health signs etc. It may take a day to pass through .
We here at Dindy Terrace have witnessed and worried over the consumption of Carpet, various types of plastic, rubber edge of dustpan, table legs, fleece, ramp railings, correx and a low hanging Rubber Plant leaf. They will try most things if left within their reach. Bruce is peeling the wallpaper off his bedroom wall as we speak. It's a cardboard veg box from Aldi.
Oh dear! how did I get here?

She's still acting and eating normal this morning! Someone said it could take days to pass, is this true? Also today we are going to get cisapride for her gas (she hasn't stopped pooping, but almost every gas episode she's healed by just one or two small doses) and a long time ago the vet said that if there's a blockage, cisapride could "explode the gut" or something along these lines. If it was a blockage, would she still be pooping this morning, do you advise giving the cisapride? Thank you💖

If hay is still going in her mouth and poops are still coming out of her rear, its unlikely she has a blockage. I would check with the vet regarding the cisapride, and explain what has happened. Whatever she has eaten should pass through in 24-48 hours as long as she keeps eating and pooping, of course if she stops eating or pooping or bloats badly or seems in any pain you should treat that as an emergency. But hopefully it will pass through her gut with no issues x

Okay, I will keep an eye on her for today and tomorrow, then after tomorrow I will give the cisapride to make sure. And yes, if anything seems to be getting worse a vet visit will be made asap. Thank you for the advice, I'll update you the good news when she's all healed up!

Update: she's pooping a tiny bit less often, and some poops are quite small. She's still bloated pretty badly, despite all of the tummy massages for three days now. I'm praying she keeps pooping today and tomorrow so I can give her the cisapride asap. I know you're no vet, but do you think I should risk it and do the cisapride? Or are you convinced that this could very much be blockage. Thank you

I would just take her to the vet if I were you. No point giving her medicine when you don’t know what may be wrong. Just my opinion.

I get where you're coming from, but she's acting and eating really great and her stomach seems to have gone down a bit. I honestly think it'll pass through just fine, but like he said, if she starts acting strange or shows big red flags all of a sudden, then I will do so, but she's a strong Piggie who eats a lot of things she happens to find on the floor, so I'm sure it'll pass through just fine if it hasn't already.

If you are unsure whether it is safe to give medication please ring your vet and seek advice from them. As the medication is already prescribed they may be willing to give further advice without you taking her back in. No one on here can make a recommendation one way or the other, to do so would be negligent
