Goodbye beautiful Dexter :-(

We rescued him almost two years ago from an awful home! He was almost unrecognizable and a piggie at the time with 1 tooth missing, hardly any weight on him, rabbit bites and a huge abscess in his jaw. We took him to the vet that day and on-and-off for the rest of his life. The abscess never fully healed but we learnt to keep it clean as well as getting him regular doses of antibiotics etc as and when needed. In the end he became our healthy handsome boy and the friendliest pig we have ever had. We just loved him so much.

But over the past few weeks everything has caught up with him. The abscess and infection was so deep in the jaw that antibiotics couldn't reach it and he stopped eating. For the4 past two weeks we have syringe fed him, tried new medications, had daily vet trips and made saw he was as comfortable as possible, but last night we had to make the hardest decision of all. It was heart-breaking to let go of him but we know it's for the best and we will miss him so much and never forget him. We have been so lucky to have been touched by his life and I hope we gave him the very best life we could. I'll certainly miss cuddling him and his lovely guinea smell.

Bye bye Dexter. You will never be forgotten and the world was lucky to have you as part of it.

So sorry for your sad loss. Dexter sounds like such a beautiful character and clearly brought you so much joy and fond memories to cherish forever. You were lucky to have found eachother x

Thanks for the all the kind comments. Dexter was laid to rest in his favourite blanket under a tree in our garden.
