Can guinea pigs use bedsoft horse bedding? If so, what do people think of it. If no good what is a good horse bedding to use ?
I have found a farm shop that sells horse bedding and its just down the road from me. I'm thinking of trying some. I'm using fitch, but I fined it a bit of a pain ordering bedding online as you don't know what day it will be delivered. I always miss the delivery because I'm at work.
I've tried fleece and didn't like it, to much hard work lol

I found with fitch if your order it on the phone and ask the women to put a note on it to be left behind your back gate or wherever it's safe i don't have to worry even if I'm at work.

Fitch comes on next day delivery if you order before 10am, if not it's two days time from when you ordered... :)

I have tried megazorb and bedmax shavings which are horse bedding's; megazorb smelt funny but was very absorbent and soft however bedmax was too big of chunks of wood which meant i had to put hay on top also it felt damp when i touched it and wasn't absorbent at all or good at odor control.

I haven't tried any others but hopefully more people will be able to help you!

Ive not had any issues with it. It lies flat in cage nothing has ever got stuck anywhere so far in my boys or girls!

I have used megazorb in past but found it dusty woodshavings again are too dusty they actually hurt my lungs / throat as I have asthma so dread to think what tgey do to poor guineas who put their heads on them! Id love to try fitch but I cant deal with deliveries as work so its best I can get at min!

Same here with shaving I have asthma and 1 of my piggys gets a very snoty nose on shaving. Would try megazorb because of the dust. Wish I could just pop to a shop for Fitch, it is great

Yes I wish they sold It locally too! I wouldnt try random paper bedding bales. I bought one without knowing what it'd be like and its like the hamster nest tissue paper strands I got a whole bale cost £13 and is useless grrr lol!

My last fitch order took a good 4 or 5 days to come through, I've not had it next day since they got really busy and had to go offline for a bit, maybe it's a distance thing?

I am concerned about getting deliveries when I move away and start working, I'll most likely be in a flat and won't know my neighbours well enough to get them to take it in for me! I'll probably need to bulk buy when I'm off work!

I think it would depend on the workplace - for me I highly doubt it'd be possible as I'll be working in a clinic or school, maybe ok for smaller deliveries but not large bales of hay and horse bedding! It's also whether you can then get the 20kg bale of fitch home from there!

I use Snowflake, which is marketed as suitable for horses and small animals. I find it to be excellent as it looks in pee and odours brilliantly. I've been using it now for 6 weeks and my shed smells a whole lot better, considering I have 4 large rabbits and 3 guinea pigs. ;)

Is snowflake soft chip the same as snowflake I've seen in the shops? I'm off to an equestrian place tomorrow and they said they had snowflake in stock at £6.50 a bale. I'm hoping it's the same stuff.

My first order of fitch took a week to get to me. I like it but too have the same issues with delivery.

I'm pretty sure it's all the same stuff, just different size chips. You won't be disappointed, it's good stuff. ;)

I would be interested if flakes are larger than the shop stuff. Ive used the shop stuff in past for my hammy and it hurts my chest when breaking it up as I have asthma so wouldnt be happy using for pigs long term as would worry about their lungs.

I'll let you know what it's like. Will be happy to send you a sample if you want

Thanks. But I wouldnt want to put you to the trouble I have a million pigs so if I dont get on with it it'll not last long anyway :)
I've noticed their are 2 different snowflake bedding ones shavings the other is chips

Here is what it looks like. ;)

I'll try what they've got and see if they can get soft chips in as well.

I think some are confusing the pellets for the chips, these are the pellets, quite a difference. ;)

It's the soft chips and wood chips I'm confused about. I'll aim for the same pic as you put on the link earlier

Millions of pigs. Now I'm jealous
I may have exaggerated a little lol... I have 18 a present as I have been taking on unwanted pigs, doing all neccessary with regards to vets etcc and pregnancy watches etc . and attempting to rehome them. I have homes lined up for 6 at the minute so fingers crossed there will be less very soon! Although my latest girl I took on is very pregnant so may be more before its less :(

Well, it turned out to be the soft chip stuff. What a refreshing change. I put them in tonight, they spent a good half hour exploring their new pad and all seem very happy. As I've not got hay bedding now, I need to think up a hay rack idea for a c&c cage. It smells really nice too. Thanks bosshog
