Golf ball sized lump under pigs chin

Definitely removal. If you can ask the vet to keep the capsule and measure it then get your vet to cut into it. It's absolutely fascinating (in a gross way). Make sure you take a tape measure with you to measure the size of it, photograph it and take a video of your vet cutting it open. I did this with RB Piggy Christian's abscess. You can find the link here.

I would go for removal! If you trust your vet then be guided by him/her. There’s always a risk with anaesthetic but there’s also a risk with watch and wait. My Ginger got a cyst on her hip, I had the option of removal or watch and wait, I choose to have it removed and she has had no further problems
Good luck whichever you decide x

PS: My Hywel needed two full-on abscess draining and tooth shard removal operations under GA for a recurring dental root abscess that had gone into the jaw aged 6 years; it was sadly not removable.
He made it through both ops and lived for another half a year until two weeks short of his 7th birthday. Without the operations he would have had to be put to sleep in January 2016 instead of passing away in September.

Just as a little thumbs up in terms of old age operations. My Hafren was even older (just a month short of 7 years)when she needed a huge burst cyst removed that unfortunately put on a sudden growth spurt while my piggy savvy vets were on summer holiday; in her case the 'wait and see' sadly didn't work out. Again, she made a full recovery and lived for a several months before old age caught up with her.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

I’m going to get him booked in to have the abscess removed. With the advice here and from my vet I think it’s the best option.

Will let you know how it goes. Fingers crossed!

Even with removal their is a chance of reoccurrence if not treated with a suitable antibiotic. I remember years ago when I first joined this forum I had a girl called Minky who had 3 ops 5 weeks apart to sort a similar abscess and it was only a different vet who did the 3rd op who eventually sorted it. Usually Baytril isn't the best antibiotic for abscesses but Zithromax is the one that piggy savvy vets use so please ask your vet. It is also possible that it may need to be flushed regularly post op

Just thought I’d do an update on my boy.
While waiting for another appointment for him we noticed the abscess was gradually going down over the weeks so decided to wait on the surgery and see how he went.
I’m glad we did because it’s now completely gone! I’m guessing his body just fought off what ever was causing it over a few weeks (maybe the vet expressing some of it helped in the end)

Thanks for all the advice and well wishes everyone. I’m very pleased he’s now fully recovered and is doing well. I think he’s like a cat with 9 lives!❤️
