Hello everyone. Now the weather is getting a bit nicer and there’s more grass around to cut, do I give my piggies less veggies? Or do they eat less hay if they eat more grass?
Thanks

Hiya. Thanks for the reply. That’s what I thought. I didn’t want to overload them with too much veggies. But I wasn’t sure if they still needed the vitamins from the veggies. Cheers.

Grass is their natural diet, it contains a lot of what they need. As we generally can’t provide enough grass, then that is why they have unlimited hay.
If you are picking handfuls of grass for them a few times a day for example, then I probably wouldn’t reduce veg.
If they are in a run and freely grazing, then may you want to adjust things.
For example, in the summer mine are physically on the lawn 12/14 hours a day so I do tend to give a little less veg. They still have unlimited hay regardless

Hello. Thank you for your replies. I’m lucky that I live by a massive field so can nip out and get lots of grass in the summer. I have a dog so I’m reluctant to let them graze the lawn in case he has peeped on it. I think I’ll slightly reduce the veggies and see how it goes.

It's interesting because we give grass every day. I'm up early and give a few bits of veg (eg a piece of pepper and a little bit of lettuce) then a small handful of hay. This keeps them busy while I have brekkie and do lunches, by that time one of us goes on the grass run and returns with the special rustle-y bag that makes everyone wheek! But Flora has been getting distracted recently and this morning took one bite of her pepper before carefully laying it aside and looking for something else. So I tried her favourite - cucumber - same thing. So I put they hay out - bit of a sniff - came and looked at me, then went back at the cucumber when she saw George had spotted her bit. I was starting to get worried that there was something wrong but she threw herself at the grass when it arrived... she was just impatient for that!

I reduce their veg if they’re on the grass for a good few hours. But I’ve only been giving them small handfuls here and there so they still get their usual portions.
