Hi people just a questions I have a Guinea pig and she does fluff up her fur a lot and looks like and fluffy potato she does it when she's eating and when she's resting sometimes in between that. Is it something I should worry about or is it just nothing.
She lives with another female piggie in their new 3 times 4 c and c cage.
I am sure that she is not cold she in in the sun lounge where it gets quite warm ( not to warm because you don't want them to get to hot ) but I would say the temp is room temp.
Any help would be appreciated thankyou

i would also like to mention she is eating normally and drinking fine and interacting with the other piggie and me as well.

They do puff up when eating. I think it’s a kind of ‘keep away’ but I’m just guessing. Mine sometimes look more fluffy when sleeping as well.

It can be due to temperature. I notice my boys puff up if too cold. However puffing up can also be a sign of pain/not feelings well. If my boys are puffed up for too long I do observe as it can be the first tell tale sign that one is feeling a little under the weather

hi would it be something serious is it really bad that it needs to get checked out

Hi

As you also mention that she is sometimes puffing up when sleeping, I would recommend to have her thouroughly checked over. She has an underlying pain issue somewhere inside her body, so it may not be easy to find.

I would get a checkup just to be sure. It can be something minor so don’t worry too much or even nothing at all. But it is best to get the all clear then leave it :)

I find some guinea pigs puff up to sleep and others don’t. But if it is in between sleeping and eating then get them checked over xx

I’m afraid we can’t tell you. It’s best you get piggy seen by the vet for a hands on exam.

Do you think it could be bloat sorry just a question
Just get a checkup and try not to jump to conclusions OR GOOGLE and worry yourself. It might be, but they can fluff up for many reasons. With bloat you’d see loss of appetite, perhaps a hollow sound on tummy/sloshing. But a vet is necessary to confirm
