Hey ☺️

I currently have my boys on fleece liners and was wondering if anyone had the issue that their fleece liners wick too well?

When I do my spot check every day, even with additional pee pads on top of the main fleece in their top pee spots, the pee has come straight through everything and is wetting the cage base?

This is happening after 1 day, so it’s not like the liner has been in the cage for too long- it’s like the absorbing layer isn’t actually absorbing it’s just passing straight through?

If this is normal then I’ll just get puppy pads to go under their main corners but surely the absorbing layer should stop some of it coming out? I’ve read posts saying they’ve never had pee get to their bases?

For context, I have 2xkavee liners that are double sided fleece and I also bought 2x fleece topper ‘waterproof’ liners off Etsy that have a more waterproof material underside- I’m seeing this issue with both types of liners

The only time I have this is when Brillo empties his bottle. He has a way of playing with the spout so that the water just runs out of the bottle. I use puppy pads under the fleece in the areas where the bottles are with newspaper on top of the pad, I rarely have to change the puppy pads just the paper gets damp.

I would’ve guessed bottle too but it’s no where near where the bottles are, the pee is just going straight through the liners and onto the base, I’m constantly having to lift the liners to wipe up the pee- doesn’t seem to matter how many extra pads I put there either

We do similar to Piggieminder and have puppypads under the waterbottles with our fleece pee pads on top.
Our fleece pads have a zorb inner which is absorbent. Its rare for us to have anything leak through.

All of my liners apparently have an absorbing layer in between and they are certainly plush enough to suggest there is, it just doesn’t seem to do its job, yesterday the cage base was like a swimming pool through 3 layers of ‘all in one’ liners

A layer of newspaper under your fleece would help greatly. Do you know what is inside the Cavee fleece liners? Fleece is meant to wick any moisture away down into a lower material or drain through right down to the bottom layer (which is fleece) puppy pads, an old bath towel or newspaper underneath your fleece liner works well to absorb the moisture from the fleece.
I’m personally not a fan of waterproof fleece liners as the moisture has absolutely nowhere to go.

I make my own fleece liners, they have two inner layers so nice and thick

Some piggies are drinkers and some are not. I have a pair of drinkers and they tend to be “damper” than my other pair

Sorry to hear you are still struggling with your fleece liners.

Kavee website just mentions 'absorbant core' so I am not 100% sure what it is, I changed one recently and the inside reminded me of cotton wool, it was kind of scratchy and fluffy? They were advertised as being the only thing needed as they had a triple layer of fleece, absorbing fluff and then fleece all stitched into one.

The waterproof liners arent really waterproof per say, they aren't lined on the bottom with fleece, the pee comes straight through that as well so its not waterproof like a PVC would be but they still have a layer of absorbing fluff inbetween this material and the fleece

Waterproof liners rarely work because the pee tends to come through the stitching. Like you say PVC works provided it isn’t stitched.
It sound like some form of wadding inside but I couldn’t say for certain what type. I would just use something underneath to soak up the moisture, that’s all you can do really
