First Aid Kit

I'm due to get some Guinea Pigs in a few months time and wondered what you would recommand putting in a first aid kit.

I of course would take one to a vets and do have a emeyance vet around the corner.

Just wondered what others always have on hand.

In my piggy first aid box I have a variety of things (some of which are left over from dog walking first aid kit so are a bit over kill but I figured I'd keep them together). My first aid kit is quite extensive but I have several piggies with issues, but I do think the majority are useful to have just in case you ever need them.

- cotton wall buds & balls.
- cheap toothbrushes (I have a piggy with reoccurring fungal and these are great for it)
- syringes both 1ml and 5ml.
- critcial care (fine ground and normal)
- avipro plus, which is a pro biotic.
- vitamin C tablets.
- creams from gorgeous guineas for one of my pigsters who suffers from dry feet.
- nail clippers and scissors
- variety of medication for those of my pigs who are on daily meds.
- infacol incase Jammy develops a bloaty tum
- various dressings.
- snugglesafe heat pads
- anti fungal shampoo
- lice & easy shampoo from gorgeous guineas aswell

I have to say I'm very excited about getting some piggies and want to make sure they are well cared for.

I keep rats and I have BioPlus Probiotic for them is that the same as avipro plus.

I also have
Dr. Squiggles Daily Essentials (which I use twice a week for them)
Calcivet Liquid
Dr. Squiggles Spark

Can these be given to Guinea Pigs as well?

Do I need to add extra vitamin C to their meals or just make sure that they eat things that are high in vitamin C?

I have never heard of the Dr Squiggles things so would say no. Piggies don't need any extra supplements. With everything always if in doubt leave it out

You shouldn't need to add Vit C, we make sure ours always have a piece of Bell Pepper each a day this is high Vit C food. I live in near leeds and sadly the only one showing on there is in York and I go via public transport. I have a emyance vets 5min walk from my house a good vets about 10mins away by bus and a excostic specialty one near center of Leeds that if I got major issues with my rats I go to.

How many Ratties do you have? Any photos?

Apologies I should have said that I have vitamin C tablets for one of my piggies Fudge who has trouble absorbing it so he has extra ontop of what they gain through a good diet. As sport_billy said they don't generally need extra!

Only other things I'd add are a tube of Cornflour (in case you draw blood when cutting their nails), Fibreplex (to help stimulate their appetite if they're not eating) & an old electric toothbrush (the vibrating type which is great for relieving bloat).

have some Trimmex so I should be ok to use that instead of cornflour I'm not much of a cook so I don't have cornflour in. Would there be anything that would be good to clean out wounds? I do want to make it clear I'm only asking this as first aid and it will not of course replace a vet visit.
