Fanny Adams came here on the 22nd of May in pretty poor condition with a huge womb infection..

After antibiotics and a lot of soaking she has made a great improvement, but sadly she was still having very crystally wee.

She had two open wounds around her bits which have healed totally now.

An X-ray was taken showing no bladder stones and I did my best with cranberry juice, probiotic and water but still her bladder did not clear.

All her external wounds have healed, I had major concerns about her facing surgery as she is only 700g (had made it up to 800g last week but had lost some and maintained at 700g with all the extra fluids and some critical care) so we went to the vets today knowing she faced either surgery or PTS if it was thought surgery was too much for her to go through.

The vet was impressed with how the infection had cleared up and was sure a cystotomy was the next course of action (her bladder is uncomfortable and swollen) and having performed several bladder stone operations on guinea pigs recently with a 100% success rate I stood at the table having a long hard look at Fanny Adams (who was happily making a bid to get on the vets computer and pee) and I knew I had to give her the chance even though the last thing I can afford right now is more surgery, this lady will have clocked up over £200 in bills since arriving in rescue. I just hope to goodness she makes it through the op ok, (I have huge confidence in my vets operating skills) and that this is the end of her bladder sludge problem, the vet is sure it was caused purely by bad husbandry and doubts it will reoccur.

Please keep your fingers crossed for Fanny Adams today she is being operated on as I type. Her cage mate she arrived with sadly did not make it and passed away not long after arriving but would love to give this girls a long and happy life depsite what she has been through and what she is going through now.

Sending healing vibes to the sweet girl ... all digits crossed for her.

Fanny had made it through surgery and is now recovering, the vet said her bladder wall was 5-6mm thick (should have been about 1mm) and there were crystals in there that were not big enough to be stones but were too big for her to pass herself, also there was green gunk and lots of crystals in there.

I need to phone again in about an hour to see if she has recovered enough from the anesthetic to come home as if she stayed in overnight it would be in the surgery with Louise popping down to check on her and she would get far more 1 to 1 nursing here and as long as she has recovered long enough for the 5 minute journey home louise is happy for her to come back toinght, just got to wait a hoorible hour to see if she has bounced back enough to make the journey.

Glad to hear she's made it through, and yes the next hour will be awful while you wait to hear if she can come home - fingers remaining crossed for her.

All fingers and claws crossed here!

BIG VIBES xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Sorry Vikki, was on the way to the vets myself and didn't realise you were going through this... :(

Fingers, toes and paws crossed here, I really hope the op has given her a chance to lead a much more normal life, poor girl hasn't had much of a life before coming to you.

Oh, bless her ... what a little darling!

I am keeping everything crossed that she does well now she is over the surgery. She must have been in so much pain in that condition.

Many thanks to you for helping her. You are a star! xx

I had to have a little dance as she had her first ever normal wee while she has been here (it has always been very crystally!) she is pooing and peeing comfortably and is snuggled up next to a heat pad. She had a little drink of water and vitc by syringe, (thankfully by removing the top from the cage no need to pick her up for this) and has had a little veg so she should have a comfortable night. I don't think I will as need to keep checking on her but fingers crossed all ok so far.

Awwwwwwwwww bless her x>> and all thanks to you care and faith in your vet :) she must feel so much better bless her for doing her wee wees without discomfort :) You must feel so glad you made the decision to help her as much as you could xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
