Hi guys,

I haven’t wanted to take any pics yet as have been leaving the girls to settle in.

Here are Fluff (on the right) and Stripe (left). Fourteen week old Swiss breed Sisters :love:

We are so in love!

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone on the forum as I most definitely wouldn’t have ended up with such a great setup, or known what to do or if things were normal or not if I hadn’t had such great advice. Also had a cage crisis on xmas eve ha ha and was helped with that too.

We ended up getting some liners, pee pads, tunnel and cost beds made from cottontailpatterns on Etsy. They have a Zorb inners and I have to say, they have been amazing. Helen the owner is a GP owner herself.

We have flipped the pee pads and inners over after two days, poop removed daily with a hand vac and there is not one bit of smell since xmas eve. Cleaned everything out and replaced today just because I knew there was pee on it. The loft/hay area in the cage has been a godsend and really has contained all the wee and poo.

They aren’t eating much hay at the moment though whichbis worrying me slightly :hmm:. Using Timothy hay and meadow hay from B&M. Any suggestions?

They are loving their veggies and we have stuck to the portion sizes on the thread here.

So overall, it’s going great and we are totally obsessed ha ha.

Now for the cute pics....have put some cage ones in to see the setup for any new people researching as I spent hours looking ha ha. Not sure how to tag it to a different thread, hopefully it’s worked.

As for hay dustfreehay.co.uk do a great soft green meadow hay. As for timothy we alternate between Oxbow Timothy hay from Amazon and Alfalfa King Timothy hay Alfalfa King Timothy Hay | Hays & Grasses | The Hay Experts Pets at home also stock it

Thank you so much. They really are  . Ok I will try a different hay and see if that makes a difference. I thought I would be going through tons of hay but I’ve ended up just throwing it away when I’m cleaning out the cage and replacing it.

Gorgeous piggies and I really love the fleece color combo

Yip! Your cage set up is fantastic! Hope it stays that way with two messy piggies! Lol
My piggies munch their way through both Timothy and Meadow hay quite happily.
Are you maybe giving too much veg or pellets? Food bowls should be empty within about 20 mins max. If they've plenty hay around Then they ll eat that until the piggy slave replenished the bowls! Good luck with your gorgeous piggies. X

Maybe I am. I definitely overfed them veg on the first two days until I read the post where it shows you the portion on a plate.

I must be overfeeding pellets then as there are always quite a lot left. I was eye measuring an eighth of a cup each but will measure properly to make sure and reduce pellets. They won’t touch it in the hay pouches so I have just bundled it all into the hay loft. They tend to bury into the teepee type beds rather than the hay. I’m sure they will change what they do when they are more settled.

X

Thank you :luv: . The poo clearing has been an eye opener ha ha. Wasn’t expecting quite so much! X

The hay pouch is just amazing. I wish I had the creativity to color cordinate my stuff. We should talk more.
What’s really annoying is they won’t go near it ha ha. So looks fab but they are totally useless at the moment . I only wish I could sew these myself! Xx

I have my grandmas sewing machine upstairs but wouldn’t have a clue what to do ha ha x

If I have another go I will send you a pic of how horrendous it looks ha ha x

How long did it take you to build that cage?
We had a nightmare with it as we got my daughter the piggies as a surprise for Christmas so had to decorate the room, build all the cage and collect them without being seen ha ha.

It took about two hours. We had a dilemma in that even though it says the cage is 5x2, it’s actually wider than that so the fleece wasn’t wide enough. They also didn’t send a ramp so we had to be creative with a piece of unused flooring :mal:....all in secret ha.

If we could have done it without trying to hide it then it would have been easier. Measuring out the correx sheeting was the hardest part. X

I think the cage cost about £59 and correx was about £10. It’s great and very easy to clean out x

Yes most use a small handheld vacuum or the good old fashioned handbrush and brush pan. I used to do mine twice a day during the week and 3 times a day on wheekends.

Gorgeous piggies and great cage... looks lovely.. how about covering one section over on top with a fleece so they have some cover? They might feel a bit exposed.. I love the fleece colours

Ah ok. I only didn’t do this as thought under the loft enclosed in the beds would be enough. I will give it a go x

Just A suggestion.. I have the same set up and my hay tray is in the bottom opposite the loft so I keep that covered over so they feel safe.. I often pull it back to clean and feed them and both pigs are chilling out under there.. x

My initial reason for putting the hay tray up there was to contain the hay upstairs. They aren’t even eating it or going in it though so I will give it a go moving it x
