Is it possible for a guinea pig to have an illness to the point where they show symptoms like eating slowly or barely eating but then fight off the disease?

If a guinea pig is ill it needs to see a vet.
Guinea pigs hide illness well and can go downhill very, very quickly.
Chances are that by the time you notice even 'minor' symptoms your guinea pig is actually quite unwell.
I would never take a risk with my pets' lives - always see a vet.

:agr:

A piggy should always be taken to the vet to have symptoms addressed. Not eating is a big sign of something very quite wrong and immediate syringe feeding and vet care is needed.

Things can’t just be fought off - for example a dental issue will cause piggy to eat less or eat more slowly but it is not something that will cure itself and would just get continually worse, the less piggy eats the more the teeth overgrow the less piggy eats (alongside the fact that the system then starts to shut down and piggy gets very poorly)

Hi and welcome

In short - your guinea pig needs to see a vet urgently for a diagnosis and appropriate medication.
In addition, it will also need your feeding support at home.

Here is our bridging, crisis and emergency care guide with all the relevant information on care at home and on vet care.
PLEASE take the time to read it, step in with feeding support and see a vet as soon as possible. Make sure that they also check the crucial back teeth for overgrowth (they are usually hidden by gunk).
Emergency, Crisis and Bridging Care until a Vet Appointment

Guinea pigs are prey animals and wired to suppress illness until it is nearly too late. By the time you see symptoms, they are already seriously ill and unable to fight off any illness. You do not have oodles of time left if you want to save their lives. You have to step asap!

Because guinea pigs are so good at hiding illnesses, by the time you see symptoms, they have already failed at fighting it off themselves. If you see signs of illness, it's best to see a vet ASAP because generally, by the time you see the signs, they've been sick for awhile and are not winning the fight.
