I'm unsure if I'm overreacting! But I gave my 2 guinea pigs a total of 4-5 baby carrots today. And one of my guinea pigs will only take a nibble and will not really eat the veggies. The other guinea pig essentially ate 4 baby carrots. But then I found out that pigs should only get one per day! I am panicking a bit and I am a new guinea pig owner so I made this mistake. Will this affect his health in the future? Next time, should I only put 1 carrot in if the other pig doesn't seem interested in eating it? Thanks!

Don’t panic. Your piggy should be fine.
For future information, it’s not one carrot per day. Carrots (and fruit) high in sugar and should be kept as an occasional treat. Only give them a small piece once per week

Thank you so much! I was so worried but this helped! Thank you for such a fast reply. How many veggies do you usually keep in the fridge? I found a food chart but most of the vegetables say "Almost Everyday."

Use the guides below to help you.

they only need around 1 cup of veg per day. The only veg mine get daily are coriander, lettuce, cucumber and bell pepper. Everything else is fed in moderation and rotation. Always keep high calcium veg such as kale, spinach and parsley to a minimum (once per week). As I said above, keep sugary items limited as well.

There is a sample plate on the first link will help you

Also keep pellets strictly limited to one tablespoon per day and ensure lots of fresh hay is constantly available as it needs to make up the bulk of their daily diet. (Daily food Intake - hay 80%, veg 15%, pellets 5%)

Thank you so much! I thought 1 cup was bigger than that and so the photo really helped! I just noticed that the people I adopted my piggies from have been feeding them "Wild Harvest Advanced Nutrition Brand with Alfalfa." Is this dangerous for the 1-year old pig? I hear too much alfalfa is bad. I do also have a two-month old pig so should I continue feeding him the pellets that they gave me? Thanks!

Alfalfa is not good for adult piggies and also not necessary for a two month old. (It should only be fed very limited amounts to pregnant and nursing babies. ). Alfalfa is high in calcium
I would get them onto a plain pellet (not muesli type feeds), one which ideally doesn’t contain alfalfa. To my knowledge, wild harvest is a muesli so is not recommended to be fed
Pellets should be limited to just one tablespoon per pig per day

No need to overreact we all make mistakes and there is so much information on diet it's hard to get it all right all the time. A few cheat days never hurt anyone but it's best to avoid surgery foods most of the time.

Thank you all so much! I just want my pigs to be healthy since the last owner did not seem to treat them very well (small cage, little to no hay, kept a 6 week old son with his mother and got her pregnant, etc)!
