Eye Growth/Injury (red lump)

Anything to do with the eyes is considered urgent. You should get piggy seen by a vet. The good thing is that eyes are treated the same for all animals, so you can take piggy to any vet and not just an exotic.
thank you for this the problem is that its a bank holiday easter friday and the vets are all closed till tomorow

All UK vets provide 24/7 cover so you can still get your piggy seen today by an out of hours vet. If you ring your normal Surgery number, their answer machine should give an alternative number for out of hours cover

Thank you :) And aww cute! Grey piggies are so sweet! xx

Hi everyone,

Just looking for a little post-vet advice if that's okay!

One of our piggies suffered an eye injury overnight (we cleaned them out the day before so we know it can't have happened before then as we always check our boys and give them a brush and cuddles before we put them back!)

As you can see, he has a red lump of flesh poking out, and it looks pretty sore. Our cage is very open with lots of soft things in, so we can only assume this has happened via hay poke or a claw incident (he has one cage mate).

Anyway, we immediately took him to the vet who gave him a full check over....nothing else seemed to be obviously wrong with him (his eye surface had a small scratch mark on it) and his behaviours have been completely normal since suffering the injury. The vet prescribed us Isathal eye drops, which we've been using all week.

Our question is has anybody else got any experience with this kind of injury? And if so, do you know how long it should take for it to look noticeably better? So far we haven't seen much of a change in his eye so I thought I would ask around!
Thank you for any help or advice :) xx

Hi, we are new to the forum and are looking for advice. Our GP Chilli has got a red lump in the corner of her eye today that looks just like this. I see that this post was from a few years ago. How did you get on? Did your piggies need vet treatment for this or did it heal by itself? Wondering if we need to take her to the vet

As this post is several years old and the OP hasn’t been back on in a very long time, you are not likely to get an update

Eyes are considered urgent so anything out of the ordinary does need a vet check. please do have your piggy seen by a vet
