At what age can you give Emeprid to guinea pigs?

Bryce is around 4 months old, weighing 734g. He was prescribed Metronidazole yesterday for his abscess in the neck. This night, I haven't seen any poops in his cage. I cleaned it at 8pm and since then, I haven't seen any poops. I've given his meds tonight before I noticed that there are no poops in his cage, or else I wouldn't have given it to him.

Hopefully someone can reply (@Wiebke @PigglePuggle @VickiA @furryfriends (TEAS) ) to me coz it'll be a matter of urgency soon if he still isn't pooping in the next 2 hours.

We are rushing to emergency vets now coz Bryce has not pooped since before 8pm last night. We"ve given him 0.7ml of Emeprid last night and this morning and still no poops. Hopefully vets can do something. He is still bright though but he only has eaten bits and pieces of food.

I have no idea sorry but I know from human experience that an abscess can be severely severely painful. Perhaps that's putting him off eating. Hope Bryce is OK 🤞

So sorry, had completely missed the posts where Bryce has an abscess. Poor little fellow. Hope you can get some answers and help at the emergency vet. Has he been eating?

He was still eating grass last night, didn't eat much veggies but I just thought he was full because of the grass. He was still eating a few pellets and I saw him eating hay at around 12mn-1am. I managed to only give him 4mls of CC during the night and loads of water with probiotics. Hubby has given him a few mls of cc again this morning. We haven't had any sleep yet.

We took Bryce to emergency vets. Not good. He has a temperature and told us no gut movements. Vet told us we really needed to see specialist vet but we tried calling Birch Heath, Rutlands, and Derwent Valley but no vets coz of bank holiday. Vet has given him subcute fluids and prescribed cisapride. Told us that's all they can really do coz only a guinea pog specialist can give us other ways to try to treat him. With his age and the temp and abscess, having the antibiotics is really necessary so they are out of option as well. We might be putting him to sleep tomorrow. 😭😔

Oh nooo! Poor little Bryce, I have everything crossed that he shows some improvevent.

We are giving him 24 hrs to see if there will be improvement. He is perky and started eating and running around when I put him back to his cage. He is rumble strutting in front of Vegas just now.

I’m so sorry to hear about Bryce. We’ve got all fingers and paws crossed here that he will turn the corner. Hugs.

If you look at him, he doesn't look sick. He is eating, running around and wheeking for the girls. Weird thing is he seems to be eating poop from his bum. He was doing it loads of times and chewing after he puts his mouth in his bum. Surely he isn't eating all his poop?!?!?! No poo droppings at all. If there is no gut movements, how come he is still perky and seems lively, not just lying down?!?!

Yeah he was in the massager earlier. We also put him in the girls' cage (when the girls were not there) so he can run around. He was quite happy when he was in there with all the smell of the girls. He kept on wheeking and exploring! He also ate some veggies and grass. You wouldn't really think there's something wrong with him. He seems lively! Fingers crossed the emergency vets has made a mistake about him being really bad. It's just annoying that it's bank holiday and we can only talk to Ellie (or any exotic vets) on Tuesday because of it! We will monitor him to see if he would still be the same tomorrow. He has at least 2 days to pick up before we can ask for him to be seen again by Ellie.

He's eating grass with Vegas again now. He really likes to be with the girls now. He's been chewing the cage to get to the other side. He would be bonded with them in 2.5 weeks time! Fingers crossed he would still be alive when we wake up tomorrow morning! 🤞

I only had 2 hours of sleep in the last 24 hours so I'm really struggling to stay awake to be able to monitor him again throughout the night. Still no poops!

I did get a long-ish sleep, thankfully. Set my alarm at 8:45am but I just turned it off and managed to fully wake up at 10:45am! 😁

I went to bed last night around quarter to 1am. Just lying on bed checking my social media. Around half past 2, I got up and decided to check on Bryce. Took out his box and I saw one poop, a bit soft and brownish colour. So I put it back and went to bed, woke up hubby and told about it so he can check it in the morning.

Well this morning, hubby said there is no sign of the poop I was telling him last night. I checked it when I got up and there isn't any poop. Hubby said when he woke up, he saw Bryce interacting with the girls and eating his pellets. Gave them their morning treats and he ate the parsley and pea shoot. He was eating grass too. He didn't eat his cucumber during the night, but it's probably because he has loads of fluid in him after the subcutaneous fluid they injected on him yesterday.

I put him in the girls' cage again so I can clean his cage and he goes nuts again running around wheeking for the girls who are just ignoring him because they were under their chair at the other side of the room.

Looks like he just fooled us yesterday, hubby said, and hubby paid £228 for emergency vets for scaring us! There are still no poop in his cage but we can see him getting something from his bum and chewing. So he still probably just eating all his poops. We haven't given him his antibiotics since yesterday and will probably wait until we talk to Ellie tomorrow on what we can do next. His abscess is still the same size and he seems not bothered with it.

He really doesn’t look like a piggie who very poorly does he. I wouldn’t stop the AB’s unless the vets say you can though as the bugs build up a tolerance for the AB and it loses its effect and fails to treat the infection

Well we have to talk to the vet tomorrow to know what to do, whether we have to continue this antibiotic or if she needs to change it.
