While the girls were staying with their auntie Wiebke, she felt a lump on Elizabeth’s leg / hip area and wasn’t alarmed but Wiebke advised I have it vet checked at Ella’s vet appointment today.

The vet said its size is equivalent to a small football sized lump on a large dog 😞 Due to its location and size, the vet said it would be tricky to removed but he had a good feel and took a sample with a nasty needle. Elizabeth was really good as I held her. Anyway, the vet said he’s pretty sure fat came out but wanted to give it a few hours to dry before making a diagnosis.

Anyway, the vet has phoned and he is 90% sure it’s another fatty lump which matches Wiebke’s thoughts too. He saw no cancer cells when looking under the microscope but did see a little bacteria so has prescribed 10 days of yucky baytril just to see if that helps reduce the size of the lump and he wants to see her again on 4th May to reassess although he said to take her back sooner if she appears unwell.

Please keep your fingers crossed that the lump doesn’t grow anymore. It hasn’t grown in the 3 weeks she has been at Wiebke’s but I’m gutted that I may have missed it although it definitely wasn’t there last summer or at my vets last examination of her and both him and Wiebke have said large fatty lumps can pop up from nowhere

Lots of healing vibes much appreciated as Elizabeth is feeling sorry for herself this evening after her ordeal and is sporting a little shaved area over her lump

Sending hugs. My girl buttercup has a few fatty lumps. They aren’t bothering her at the moment so we decided to leave them for now due to the risks of surgery. I hope they aren’t bothering her and she feels better soon xx

Hoping it’s just a fatty lump and doesn’t grow any bigger. And the yucky baytril helps.

Can I just clarify:
The lump has about doubled in size over the last three weeks but not so fast that I felt it needed emergency attention over the Easter holidays while Elizabeth was staying with me.

The feel and growth pattern were consistent throughout with a fatty lump (of which Elizabeth already has got three). They often come up very quickly out of nowhere to quite a large size but stay solid, unlike larger cysts or many tumors. From what I could see, the lump didn't impede Lizzie's mobility and I also didn't see any signs of her worrying that area because of discomfort.

But of course I did ask @Claire W to have it vet checked after Elizabeth's return.

I hope that the antibiotic can help nip any possible complications in the bud.

Just allow the vet to guide you.its worrying ,but your vet will explain everything.Take care.x

Thank you. When I saw the vet, he took some fluid from the lump and had a look under the microscope and is 90% sure it’s a fatty lump but he said that due to its size and location, it would be tricky to remove 😞 she has a 10 day supply of baytril as a precaution as he saw a little bit of bacteria and we’re seeing him again on 4th May. His main concern is it growing and impending her mobility 😞

Poor Elizabeth. Hope the antibiotics help.
Understand where you are coming from, my piggy George had a similar lump in his shoulder. I was paranoid, kept a close eye on it and measured it every couple of days. Fortunately it never got any bigger, hopefully Elizabeth 's will be the same.
Sending you massive hugs.xx

Elizabeth finishes her antibiotics tomorrow and her lump hasn’t shrunk at all snd still feels like a golf ball 😞 but I don’t think it’s grown anymore?

Hi

The shrinking was just a hopeful potential which you have latched onto a bit too much. The first aim of the antibiotic was and is to stop an infection in the fatty lump from developing. The fatty bit in the lump (which is most of it) is not affected by any antibiotic; just the small traces of bacteria found in the needle aspiration. The lump staying stable is actually good news: there were obviously not too many bacteria or infectious fluid in the lump.

As long as the lump is staying the same size, you and Elizabeth are fine. Keep in mind that fatty lumps grow quickly to quite a size and then stop; you had that with Edward before.

Please accept that none of us can tell you whether the lump has grown or not just by looking at a picture without a hands-on examination. Only your vet can do that. Us playing guessing games won't help you and Elizabeth any.

Please take a deep breath and calm down.

Oh no poor Elizabeth - she really does need a break - hope this uti gets sorted tomorrow for her 🥰

Glad that the lump is staying put. All the best with her URI. It can take week or two until symptoms fully subside.

So stressed out 😞 Elizabeth’s fatty lipoma hasn’t grown (as far as I can tell) but she has developed another small lump just below her big fatty lipoma 😞 She’s back at the vets on 10th July to have the big lipoma checked again so I’ll have this new lump checked too unless it grows in the meantime and then I’ll have it checked at Ella’s appointment on Monday. Can my guinea pigs please catch a break 😞 x

I’m sorry you’re so stressed. I hope 11th comes quickly so Elizabeth can have it sorted.

I'm sorry this is stressing you Claire. I expect it's another lipoma, some piggies seem to be prone to them. My Brillo has 5 now!
Thank you. I’m hoping this is just another one. Elizabeth has 3 fatty lipomas on her underside (we had them biopsied as they’re on her mammary line) so she is a lumpy girl

Hoping Elizabeth is ok.
I had a lumpy piggy many years ago. All just fatty lumps, but it does still stress you out every time you fine a new one.
Sending hugs.xx
