Apparently 1 out of 10 guinea pigs get earwax. Does anyone know what it looks and smells like?

In my experience, dark skinned pigs get black ear wax. Light skinned pigs get creamy ear wax. It;s just "muck" inside the ears, it can be on the underside of the ear flap as well as in the visible folds of the ears.

Ear wax can entice parasites, essentially leading to ear mites if the ears are not cleaned regularly. Ear mites being characterised by head shaking, head tilt, scratching the ears, sensitive ears (sometimes normal but excessive reactions to touch are common when the ears are sore/irritated due to parasites), hair loss around the front of the ear (it is normal for there to be a bald patch behind the ears) and even hair loss/irritation around the eyes.

I clean my pigs ears every time they are bathed every 1-2 months, 2 drops of Otodex Veterinary Ear Drops (for cats and dogs - but good for piggies) in each ear and wiped around all visible surfaces the next day. :)

Thank you.:)) That really helped because I was worrying about the stuff in my dark skinned guinea pigs ear because she had surgury last year. She has had several lots of earwax since then but they just come and go. So I know not to worry now. Thank you again.:) Is it un heard of for dark skinned guinea pigs to get white ear wax with no smell?

I don't know if it's unheard of, only that in my own pigs the pattern is dark skin = dark wax, light skin = light wax! :))

Forgot to mention anything about smell - in short, it should not smell. If there is a notable odour it could indicate infection, or in some cases an abscess.

It has no smell and from last year, I can remember what an abcess smells like! It is just a little bit of clear white liquid and there is less then there was yesterday. I think that this is ok, do you?:))
