I have two board who get along well and I was thinking about expanding their 5x2 cage upwards and making a ramp so they would have double the space to share. They don’t fight over areas but I have heard boars don’t generally like 2 level because they fight. Is this true?

Piggies (regardless of their sex) are ground dwelling animals so any second level to their cage does not count towards their cage space - so strictly speaking you will not be doubling their space by adding a level; you are simply providing a bonus space.
The only way to make more territory and actually increase their cage space to expand the cage outwards on the single level.

Being ground dwelling animals, climbing a ramp is a learnt behaviour, it’s not natural to them. Some may learn but others may not.
It’s going to come down to the individual piggies - eg older piggies may not have any interest in it,

The issue with an upper level comes if one piggy claims the ramp and upper level as their own - they can then stop the other piggy from using it.
It’s going to be very specific to the pair though.

Do remember that if you make that kind of change to their cage, then you will be changing their environment and it could well set them into a period of reestablishing their bond. You may see an increase in dominance during that time.
