ive noticed Lily is very particular what she eats at what time. She has certain veggies she loves but sometimes she won’t touch them depending on the time of day and sometimes she’ll eat them like a beast for a few days straight, then stick her nose up to them for no reason later. Then eat them happily a day or two later.

Does this happen to other people’s pigs?

I’m thinking her body is telling her she’s had enough of some certain vitamin and doesn’t need it that day maybe

Thanks!

This happens with my pigs all the time. They both love cucumbers but after a while they get sick of the food and stop eating it. It is kind of like how we can get sick of foods sometimes. The only food mine never do this to is red bell peppers. But they will definitely just leave the veggies there to rot if they feel they have eaten enough of it.

Yes I've thought they didn't like certain veg, then tried it a few weeks later & they started eating it again. Variety is the spice of life maybe! Some things they only want once in a while like cabbage or cauli leaves but peppers or sweetcorn they would eat every day.

Haha. good to know! My birds are like this too. So small, but so full of attitude! :D

When she came to me she didn’t like a single veg. Through perseverance she likes a handful now. So when she goes off them it leaves nothing else lol. Hopefully her tastes will expand! She HATES cilantro something awful. She acts like it’s poison if it touches her nose lol.

Mine do this all the time, I am convinced I sometimes buy red peppers the wrong shade of red (yes it's that bad!). I have a weekly supermarket delivery, this week they didn't have the large cucmber we usually have so they sent two small ones in stead. The piggys get a quarter of an inch of cucumber each in the morning but this is the wrong cucumber so their not eating it. :hb: The other thing is I have 2 pairs of boars in seperate cages so there is some kind of signalling going on as to which veg is todays reject.

Haha! That’s is really funny :D

I understand that perfectly- horrible stuff

Yes one of mine does this (the other will eat anything), at the moment she is anti mint which in the past she has loved. She also hates thyme and runs away as soon as she smells it lol.

Mine will often leave their pellets for aaages in case I am going to give them ... GRASS but I hadnt picked any today (too frosty) so they had to force them down.

Yup, my Comet will refuse to eat leaves if they're pointing the wrong way :td: Blitzen will eat pretty much anything I've ever given them, but Comet changes his mind more often than he goes to the toilet, I swear. He's started eating beans and coriander again which he used to ignore entirely, but I haven't worked out what he's decided to not eat instead yet. It isn't cucumber, but that's all I know

Sometimes little piggies are so fickle... I’m sure it’s so I spend loads money in Morrison’s in the salad section just for them x

The only time mine have refused veggies they usually like is if it was food that was sort of heading past being nice and fresh and into 'you should probably cook this to eat it' territory. So perhaps if they're refusing food that's already been fed for a few days prior, that it's equally not fresh enough for them to enjoy?

Yep, mine do this. We laugh because we have a juggling act with baby corn and green beans.

One day corn are "THE BEST EVER!" and need to be devoured in seconds. A few days later and they're "meh" and leave them. So we then swap to beans and they're the best... until they're not.

Whenever I think we have a new favourite and fill the fridge with it the little darlings decide to “go off it”and I end up binning it or turning it into soup.
I think piggies are much like toddlers in this respect. Fussy little blighters.

Yep. Chutney's done it a few times. Bob is still fairly new, so I'm still trying different veg with him. So far, he's not been that picky - although he doesn't seem to like red bell pepper, but will eat the green ones.

I remember a short while ago whilst I was looking after a couple of lads, they weren’t fussed about cucumber - until I sat down next to them chomping on my salad and they demanded some of my cucumber! Food always seems to taste better when you nick it off someone else’s plate :))
