Desperate - Massive fast weight loss and no vet diagnosis

I'm so sorry for the sad news and the decision you have had to make for your boy. It's hard but you are doing the right thing in not letting him continue to suffer.

Hopefully as you still have two boys, they will continue to keep each other company and not pine acutely for their brother. If/When you bring Gunther home from the vet, you could put his body innthe cage for a few minutes so they can work out what has happened. though you don't have a garden, do you have space for a plant pot? You could either bury Gunther in a pot or have him cremated and put the ashes in the pot with appropriate flowers or a plant. Or keep his ashes in an urn or casket. There are various options, people can choose whatever they feel most comfortable with. Here is a recent thread about keeping ashes for examples .. Guinea Pig Ashes

Hugs to you and your sister

Sleep tight little man 🌈

I’m so sorry, you did what was best for your little man. Sleep tight Gunther. Huge hugs xx

It is the hardest decision but you made it with kindness and love. To find swollen kidneys and multiple stones... even if surgery had been possible the chances of these recurring (and maybe within weeks) could have been quite high. And surgery is risky - I lost a boar after stone surgery and it broke my heart.

I have not always brought my pigs home for the others to see... sometimes they have known that the other one is ill and when they didn't come back they didn't actually look for them. The vet can sort out the next step. There is the option of having a proper individual 'cremation' where you get the ashes back... this is more expensive. Cheaper is a cremation where you don't get the ashes back. You can take piggy along to the vet in a shoebox of hay and they will be cremated with the other much loved cats, dogs and bunnies that passed that week. This is about £25-£30 here. If money is very tight and you are not sentimental some vets will actually 'dispose hygienically' for no charge where the little body is essentially wrapped and popped in the bin for incineration with the other bits from operations etc. Personally I've only ever buried one of my piggies as my patch is very tiny. She passed here at home. Everyone else was cremated. You do miss them so much - other piggy people can understand though. They have a special place in your heart, and when they go they take a piece of your heart with you 💕 Although it hurts, remember he is out of pain now.
