Crying when urinating

That's good that the vet is taking his pain seriously. You might ask him what the procedure was that he had done so you can assess how long any residual pain should be present. It will really help if you can draw a distinction between pain from the procedure and pain caused by whatever was bothering him in the first place. As I understand it the bladder health tablets take a while to kick in... over a week even, but we've not had these before so I've no personal experience. It will help you a lot if you know what is supposed to be happening and when. Be brave at the vet Raymond! 💕

Even if you don't have time to answer I hope Raymond and his devoted owner are doing OK... 💕

Funny enough I was just replying to you... we took him to the vets, they examined him and said there arent any new issues, and that hes in pain because there is still some sludge that's making it's way out. They upped his loxicom from 0.4ml to 0.6ml and have given him some buprecare (0.1ml twice a day). Unfortunately he is in the worst pain I've seen him in. He's been screaming and squealing when weeing and pooing and its breaking my heart. He's eating and drinking ok but is in so much pain. 😞 thank you for sending your thoughts x

Oh poor, poor boy 😢 Are they sure it's not an infection? Did his urine come back negative? Just thinking about your original post...

Can't remember if I said but I had a little 1 kilo sow last year who had passed a stone and they thought she was trying to pass another. Her normal metacam was 0.23ml twice a day - on vet advice we doubled it (again twice a day) and it suited her fine but when we tripled it she was really rough. Are you doing 0.6ml once a day, twice a day or like 0.3ml twice a day? If it's once a day and he's off his food after it might be too much for him in one go but some pigs can probably take it. When I dropped her back down to the double dose she picked up fast - they do metabolise it quickly. How is he finding the buprecare... it's not something we've had before.

My sow developed ulcers on her lady bits because of the constant dripping of urine (and the urinary infection - she was on ABs) which we treated by giving her bits a little rinse (syringe of warm water, sit her on a towel and rinse, light dab dry) and gently patting on a thin layer of Sudocrem (the baby nappy cream) to protect her. It took 2 or 3 days before she was healing up but it made her more comfortable.

They said it could be an infection, and he is on antibiotics as well as the pain relief (sorry I'm losing track of what I have and havent said!). They want to keep him on the pain meds, urine tablets and antibiotics and see how he is after that. I'm just concerned because he got better after the first round of antibiotics but since Friday on a new lot of antibiotics he has not improved 😞
He has not lost his appetite at all which is good. He is taking 0.6ml of metacam twice a day (so 1.2ml) in total as of yesterday. The vet said it was rabbit metacam which is probably why they can give a bigger dosage?
Sorry that your little sow had problems with stones, that's awful 😞 the buprecare doesnt seem to be doing anything for him. I was hoping it would give him more pain relief.
I'll keep an eye out for any dripping, so far he seems ok but I dont want him to get ulcers as well as the issue he's having.
X

It's good that he's still getting the ABs - cover all the bases. And 2 types of pain relief as well as the urine health tablets. They're taking him seriously at least! It is terribly hard to see them in this sort of pain - they're so helpless with it. Fingers crossed he gets through the worst and starts to improve soon. At least he is eating and drinking so he is a determined boy.

My lovely girl has since passed (a completely different issue) but she recovered well from her stone - they have a slightly larger urethra so they generally have more options than the poor boars. My pigs are usually 3+ when they come here so (touch wood) we've not seen the 'pet-shop-baby' issues like ringworm or surprise pregnancy but we've had our share of mites, UTIs and stones (not all stones ended well...) We've not had this sort of 'sludge' issue though.

Raymond is in our thoughts and prayers x

Yes I'm so glad that its covering all bases. The vets have been brilliant and very supportive.
It's so awful seeing them in pain. I'm not quite sure much more I can do. I'm just hoping that over time he improves.
Thank you!
So sorry to hear about your girl ❤ and sorry that you've had to go through all the UTI's and stones with your pigs! It's a shame they are so susceptible to it. Poor piggies!

A vet who listens and tries their best for a little pig can make all the difference. I've leaned very heavily on mine in the past. I'm thinking positive and looking forward to the day when Raymond is cheerfully posing for photos in all his glory 💕

Seeing as the weekend is approaching I wondered how Raymond is getting on? There's a piggy in another post who has had pee problems which their vet says are 'crystals' in the urine but tests are still on going and it reminded me of your boy. Is he more comfortable yet?

It will be a week tomorrow so I'm assuming it's either good news for Raymond and you are back to normal life, or not so good and you are suffering. There is no need to reply but I'm hoping and praying that your little fellow is comfortable. Someone is thinking about you 💕

Sorry for the late reply. I didn't see this come through on my notifications. I just wanted to write on here to say that Raymond is doing really well. He's stopped crying now when relieving himself and he's pretty much back to normal. He just finished his course on antibiotics and has been back on his feet. When he's not sleeping or nibbling on some veg he's playing with his cage mate, Solomon. I've put a few photos up for you all.

Thank you so much everyone for your support. I know we've still got alot of work to do with Raymond's diet so this doesn't come back again but your support has just been wonderful.

I'll check back in with you all early next week. I know when he finished the first lot of anti-biotics he was ok but then struggled again. Fingers crossed he's in a much better place.

Thank you all xxxxxxx

How lovely to see Raymond and to hear things have finally turned a corner for him.

Thank you! I'm so happy that he's back to his normal self. It's so awful seeing piggies in pain or distress. Thank you for your support x

This is awesome news! So pleased and what a little stunner

How wonderful to see him feeling better! Piggies are all lovely but Raymond stole my heart, and we are all so pleased that he is pain free again. And those photos - what a star! Thanks for updating us 😊

Aww thank you for such kind words. And once again, so sorry for the delayed reply. I used to get notified when a new comment was posted on this thread but for some reason they didn't come through so I didnt think to check on the forum.
Thank you for your support through all of this. It's so wonderful to see him back to normal x

Hi everyone, I'm so sorry to open this conversation up again.. after a good run of Raymond doing very well he started crying again a few weeks ago. He was on some more painkillers and then was bought in to have an xray. In having the x-ray a bladder stone was discovered so he was put under GA to have it removed. Unfortunately the surgery was unsuccessful, the vets were unable to get the stone out. It's been a week since his surgery, hes of course still in pain and has been on metacam and antibiotics.
The urine sample came back clear as having no infection. There was a bit of a concern that the stone could be causing infection.
The vets got a second opinion from another exotic specialist who suggested that he may be able to pass the stone.
The next steps are that Raymond will go on pain meds, we'll see how he does in the next week. If he's not been able to pass it he will undergo surgery again to remove it (the vets are going to try some different tools). And if surgery is unsuccessful again then we will not wake him up 😞
I just wanted to keep everyone posted, I should have posted something sooner but I felt so guilty as the last I posted he was in great spirits and seemingly recovered. If anyone has any new thoughts or ideas please let me know. I absolutely adore him and it pains me to think that we may need to have him put down x

Sorry to hear you and Raymond have been having a rough time. It’s heartbreaking when you don’t get the positive outcomes when you’ve both been working so hard. My fingers are crossed for you both and I hope it’s positive for Raymond in the next few weeks.

BIG HUGS
Wishing you and Raymond all the best.

Unfortunately stones (especially larger ones) don't go away on their own. Boars have an awkward inglenook in their urethra where a stone often fetches up. Getting it out of there can be problematic. It can be that the stone has grown or moved. :(

Thank you @Wiebke 😔 I'm hoping it can be removed but if not we just need to think about what is best for him

Oh no. I am so. Rey sorry to read your update. Sending you and Raymond all good wishes x

I'm so terribly sad for you all but still hopeful. It sounds like a sensible plan of action and I really hope things work out for Raymond and he feels better soon 💕Thanks for keeping us updated.
