All the best with the vet visit x
Yes I'm so glad that its covering all bases. The vets have been brilliant and very supportive. It's good that he's still getting the ABs - cover all the bases. And 2 types of pain relief as well as the urine health tablets. They're taking him seriously at least! It is terribly hard to see them in this sort of pain - they're so helpless with it. Fingers crossed he gets through the worst and starts to improve soon. At least he is eating and drinking so he is a determined boy.
My lovely girl has since passed (a completely different issue) but she recovered well from her stone - they have a slightly larger urethra so they generally have more options than the poor boars. My pigs are usually 3+ when they come here so (touch wood) we've not seen the 'pet-shop-baby' issues like ringworm or surprise pregnancy but we've had our share of mites, UTIs and stones (not all stones ended well...) We've not had this sort of 'sludge' issue though.
Raymond is in our thoughts and prayers x
Sorry! I didnt see this come through as a notification either! Very strange. So kind that we were in your thoughts. Its very much appreciated xxIt will be a week tomorrow so I'm assuming it's either good news for Raymond and you are back to normal life, or not so good and you are suffering. There is no need to reply but I'm hoping and praying that your little fellow is comfortable. Someone is thinking about you
Sorry for the late reply. I didn't see this come through on my notifications. I just wanted to write on here to say that Raymond is doing really well. He's stopped crying now when relieving himself and he's pretty much back to normal. He just finished his course on antibiotics and has been back on his feet. When he's not sleeping or nibbling on some veg he's playing with his cage mate, Solomon. I've put a few photos up for you all.
Thank you so much everyone for your support. I know we've still got alot of work to do with Raymond's diet so this doesn't come back again but your support has just been wonderful.
I'll check back in with you all early next week. I know when he finished the first lot of anti-biotics he was ok but then struggled again. Fingers crossed he's in a much better place.
Thank you all xxxxxxx
Thank you! I'm so happy that he's back to his normal self. It's so awful seeing piggies in pain or distress. Thank you for your support xHow lovely to see Raymond and to hear things have finally turned a corner for him.
Aww thank you for such kind words. And once again, so sorry for the delayed reply. I used to get notified when a new comment was posted on this thread but for some reason they didn't come through so I didnt think to check on the forum. How wonderful to see him feeling better! Piggies are all lovely but Raymond stole my heart, and we are all so pleased that he is pain free again. And those photos - what a star! Thanks for updating us
Thank you! he's a sweetieThis is awesome news! So pleased and what a little stunner
Hi everyone, I'm so sorry to open this conversation up again.. after a good run of Raymond doing very well he started crying again a few weeks ago. He was on some more painkillers and then was bought in to have an xray. In having the x-ray a bladder stone was discovered so he was put under GA to have it removed. Unfortunately the surgery was unsuccessful, the vets were unable to get the stone out. It's been a week since his surgery, hes of course still in pain and has been on metacam and antibiotics.
The urine sample came back clear as having no infection. There was a bit of a concern that the stone could be causing infection.
The vets got a second opinion from another exotic specialist who suggested that he may be able to pass the stone.
The next steps are that Raymond will go on pain meds, we'll see how he does in the next week. If he's not been able to pass it he will undergo surgery again to remove it (the vets are going to try some different tools). And if surgery is unsuccessful again then we will not wake him up
I just wanted to keep everyone posted, I should have posted something sooner but I felt so guilty as the last I posted he was in great spirits and seemingly recovered. If anyone has any new thoughts or ideas please let me know. I absolutely adore him and it pains me to think that we may need to have him put down x
Thank you @Wiebke I'm hoping it can be removed but if not we just need to think about what is best for himBIG HUGS
Wishing you and Raymond all the best.
Unfortunately stones (especially larger ones) don't go away on their own. Boars have an awkward inglenook in their urethra where a stone often fetches up. Getting it out of there can be problematic. It can be that the stone has grown or moved.
