I have eight piggies and three are abyssinians and I was just wondering - do you find they are more 'hyper' (to put it nicely!) than other breeds?

My three are absolutely bonkers and, while they are very amusing and I adore them, they can be hard work! I'm still trying to get my youngest two used to being carried to and from the run, and I would have expected them to be a little more used to it by now! I've literally just put them to bed and I'm knackered! :p

Nellie is usually the most tricky - she really hates being handled and goes bonkers. She is super fast and seems to have springs instead of bones in her legs! (I call her rocket-powered-Nellie) When you do eventually catch her, she is so difficult to keep hold of. A short walk and a few emergency stops later, she is upside down, my arms are covered in scratches, and I'm clinging on for dear life while I try to put her in her house! :{

Tonight, it was Elma who was the problem. I could barely stand up before I was back on my knees while she struggled to get away. She kept manoeuvring herself so that she was upside down, trying to burrow into my lap. I spent a good minute or two just trying to move from that spot! In the end, I put her up my t-shirt...and that did the trick! :)) I don't think she likes being last to bed, she was trying to hide, bless her x)

Elphie, my older scruff, is still a bit of a nutter but no where near as bad as she was. I used to think she was suffering from seizures, she used to get so hyper! (Funny now, but not so at the time!)

What cuties! drool
I have just got two 'aby's today and compared to other guinea's in the past that i've been slave to, yes their certainly more....... active ha!
They're so cheeky already. I've also read up that aby's are more different in personality to other breeds :)

They are totally stunning! I have one and he is very hyper in the cage but great to hold.

drool drool stunners x) x)

Gosh, they are lovely!

We have had 2 Abby's. My lovely Putt was skittish at first but became very chilled with us, both her and her sister were laid back compared to other piggies though.

Now we have Vimto who apart from being a vampire is a nutter, she runs so fast and will jump over things in the cage so I think she may be a little crazy too :))

Love Elphie's name and that chookie leg drool

Aw they are beautiful! My friend has an aby who is like yours too. She just won't let anyone catch her!
Maybe you could try lifting them in a cosy or upside down pigloo? X :)

I have had a succession of abys; they are still my favourite breed and definitely not just because of their looks! At the moment, I have two. They have not been necessarily bonkers, but I find that they all pack a huge individual pigsonality into a far too small cute package!

Aby is the breed next on my "list" of what I want, what ill get will be whatever faces I fall for however hha

I have 3 abby mixes and I have to say they are the fastest out of the lot, one hates being handled and squeals for England but he had a bad start so its not helped him, he gives me the run around on a daily basis. They just seem to dive at stuff when you go to pick them up, mad as hatters :))

Oh definitely, Nigel was an abby and was very hyper (as much as his heart condition would allow) and was always up to trouble. Mrs Fuzzy seems like Nigel reincarnated she is so similar but we caught her heart condition earlier so she is doing really well on heart meds and we just can't control her, she is always looking to cause trouble and has thrived since she joined the herd, she's an abbyruvian. Other crosses we have are Little Rose and Mabel but neither are that hyper.

Oh and Nigel was so springy he could jump straight out the bath.

My late Sammy was an Abby and was an unusual little girl. I loved her to bits though and will never forget her, her picture is on my desk. Yours are lovely. You don't see as many as smooth haired ones at rescues and such.

Oh your piggys are very cute. My Abby piggy is very laid back and quiet compared to the other piggy I have. Quite different from what most people on here are saying
