Hi all............
Just wondered if any of use alternative remedies for your piggies or any other animals.... Or have you had an animal communicator talk with your baby would love to hear... I'm open to anything and i believe there is genuine gifted ppl out there and also Cowboys .. What are your experiences?

Personally i have had Reiki on my animals and communication and I'm happy i chose to have it. Anyone had a bad one or a really good one plz share.... Hopefully this post is ok? x

My vet is a homeopathic vet as well as a conventional one she offers Reiki, accupunture, laser treatment, magnetic treatment, etc I have used almost all with all my pets.

Never used a communicator not sure I would either to be honest.

Interesting hunnie... Thats nice that your vet is like that and open ... My vet is too alot of vets are very agianst it x

I have an interest in Tellington Touch - which is a massage technique for animals. I've simply spoken to a few practitioners and read a book though so it's only the basics - but it suits me.

I find it works really well with nervous/shy/anxious animals and helps create a calm and relaxed animal. It has helped with some of the rescue animals (cats or guinea pigs)

I had a very good result with a cat with stress related cystitis and in conjunction with other treatment she overcame her problems.

One of my own cats gets into bed with me every night and won't get off my chest until he has had ten minutes of slow massage :(|) He's a very chilled out fella!

I've not tried anything else but have seen the distress caused by "cowboy" animal communicators - ie when people have lost their cat and someone keeps sending them off for over a year on a wild goose chase.

I think the genuine ones try not to offer help when someone has had a pet lost or stolen as its so hard to be sure when they are communicating they are on the earth plain and if they are talking a long time ago as opposed to yesterday x

Laura-CCC4 uses Reiki alot on her pigs and has had good results she is really great on knowledge about it too;)

She used it on my sick piggy Boris and he started having very bright days more often when she was doing it, it allowed him to feel happy even though he was very ill,i noticed a calm that came over him the first time Laura did it ;)

As Bonnie says, I do use Reiki and it's part of the services I offer on my website. I'm a qualified Second Degree practitioner, have been since Sept '08. I'm also studying homoeopathy, and planning to start a course on animal communication. Aromatherapy and massage techniques also interest me; I've not tried aromatherapy on any of my pigs (other than Gorgeous Guineas products!) but I use a couple of different informal massages on my pigs and most of them love it.

I'm open to pretty much anything and everything alternative. It gives you a greater freedom than relying solely on vets, and I also believe you can understand animals much deeper as you learn to connect with them in different ways.

Just to add, I'm not talking about animal communication in the sense of connecting with spirits of those who have passed (although my grandmother is very spiritual and does often have powerful experiences)...just the connecting with them on different levels and learning how to gain a deep understanding of them.

I've got my reiki one degree and use it on animals (and some humans if they want) My mum's better at it than me on animals... they literally come up to her and basically ask for it if they're ill.

Once we had a piggy who had gone blind during the course of it's life (we even had the vets sheck to make sure as her eyes went grey and cloudy) but in all other respects she was fit and healthy. Then the day after Mum got her Reiki 4 degree she was practising on Cleo (the pig) as sometimes she got a bit nervous as she couldn't see. The next day we got her out for a cuddle and her eyes were no longer cloudy. We went to the vets with her and the vet was astounded... no more blindness.

Now for a long time we put it down to coincidence, but there have been too many 'coincidences' to ignore now. Most of them have not been that dramatic, but it really freaked us out for a while...!

I think animals respond better to reiki than people as they have no preconceptions about it... they just accept the healing energy.

Well, I exepct you all think I'm mad now, but thats what I think anyway!

What you've said is exactly right Lou. I do always send out a gentle energy at the start of a healing, to allow a good connection to form. If they accept it, I feel the pull of the energy. If they don't take it easily, I find I cannot concentrate, and I don't force the energy on them - they'll take it when they are ready. 9 times out of 10 they will take it, even if it takes a good minute or two for them to draw the energy.

People are much harder to treat IME, as so many people have closed minds. Even those who come to a treatment "to see what it's all about" are not truly open to the energy. The more open-minded they are, the more they will experience. Sceptics don't experience anything because before a treatment they have already convinced themselves there is nothing to feel...so in effect, they're not letting the energy go in and help very effectively.

Sorry to up route this thread but I find it incredibly fascinating. Our dogs have had Reiki and its relaxed them more than anything else (eg during fireworks etc). Never thought about doing it to the guinea pigs though! Might try it (when my sister next comes home as I can't do it).

wow this sounds great id love one of you to live near me so i could use up your talents on all my babies, id love to be able to do things like that but i havent a clue

I'm curious to know how to massage a guinea pig though. Would it be like a human...same kind of thing but more gently?

I had distance Reiki done on my guinea pig, punky a while age.

To be honest, i was very sceptical - have very little knowledge or experience of complimentary therapys. Punky was diagnosed (by a vet who know very little about guinea pigs!) with having several organs that just didn't work properly(liver and pancreas, I think). That took a very expensive blood test, and the vet was at a loss how best to treat him. We picked him from the shop because he looked like a runt - very small, with bad cateracts on both eyes. He was always very underweight, and his weight flunctuated - from about two thirds of his reccommended weight to just half. The vet prescribed antibiotics(baytril (wrong dose at first, changed it when I queried it!), gave anti-inflammetries, and i sorted the probiotics. His weight always increased a little on this - but we don't really know why. maybe the drugs, maybe his own natural cycle of good appetite / not so good appetite.

But his weight increased the most, and stayed steady for longest and his mood appeared brighter for longer after the reiki sessions - sceptic convinced :))

((Thanks Laura :)p ))

It's lovely to hear that many people have had a positive experience.

If you want to massage your guinea pig (or other pet) it's fairly straightforward :)

Choose a quiet and uninterrrupted time and sit them comfortably on your lap. You will need to breathe slowly and deeply yourself so that you are relaxed too. With two fingers just move their skin in small circles gradually moving around their body. There shouldn't be any pressure and it should be done slowly and gently.

It's just a simple way of taking away some tension they may have. It's not like a human's back massage though - no pressure or aggression needed. :)

My cats are very chilled out after it :(|)

I must investigate the Reiki abit more - sounds brilliant.

Thank you. I'll add a link to your rescue if you like?

Cheers for the info Laura and summerleaze! I'll definately try and massage on the guinea's! Maybe it will help with my nervous piggies!

That would be great thank you - I'll do the same :)

The Reiki is explained so well, I have a much better understanding of how it works.

I think its a wonderful opportunity too to help animals "pass over" - that must bring alot of comfort to grieving owners. Those final moments can make a big difference when coming to terms with a loss.

Grief resulting from the death of a pet is such a personal journey and can't always be shared with friends and family - it's good to know that there is other help out there.
