Clover has a bald tummy :(

We're back at the vets tomorrow, but I'm very pleased with how Clover is doing, she's spending much more time with the other piggies now- she had been avoiding them a bit but she's back to snuggling up with Blod and spending more time in the hayroom being guarded by her big furry family! Hope the vets let us continue the buprenorphine, I dont think she needs it twice a day and possibly not every day on her better days when loxicom does the trick, but it would be good to have some on hand for her worse days at least.
I dont know how vets are about longer term buprenorphine, I imagine opinions differ, but given her age and that she isnt going to magically recover I think it is fairly justified if it gives her a few more months with a good quality of life...
So happy to hear she's doing better 💞 we were able to have it long term for palliative care with Princess but babybelle (cat) would've had it pretty much long term I think had it agreed with her and she wasn't terminally ill, I hope the vets agree to it and you get some answers 💖

Vets went well, they are very pleased Clover is in much less pain and she can have buprenorphine regularly now, though they did say try not to use it every day if she's having a good day and can manage with loxicom.
Which all sounds sensible, we have a bottle of loxicom and 10 more doses of buprenorphine and can phone and ask for more when needed- they are happy for us to be guided by Clover on how much pain relief she needs up to a maximum of 2x 0.1mls buprenorphine and 0.5mls loxicom per day :)

Glad to hear that Clover is feeling better. Did the vet actually get to the bottom of what is causing her the pain?

Not really, they still feel it is bad arthritic joint pain, her tummy feels fine, and her poops are fine, breathing fine, heart fine, no palpable lumps or bumps anywhere- they offered us a referral to Rutland House exotics hospital where Blod went but given how much better Clover is with a tiny bit of buprenorphine and given how stressed she gets travelling and being handled I'm going to wait and see how she goes for a few weeks.
Now piggy daddy is back at school it would realistically be october half term before we're really free to make a whole day vet trip an hour's drive away and give post-GA support if she has more complex diagnostics, so we're going to watch and wait, the local vet wants to review her every month so any new symptoms or deterioration we'll opt for the referral.
She is an old girl, its always a balance isnt it, I want to know what's going on but it probably wouldnt change the treatment plan which is just long term pain relief...

Another bad day for Clover :(
I can see the rainbow bridge calling her but she'll be buggered if she's listening! Took her meds fine Friday, Saturday, but Sunday refused everything (except apples and oats and hay, no problem eating but no meds required she said, wriggled, fought, spat everything out) and I dont want to restrain her if she's in pain so I let her have her way and Monday she only wanted loxicom.
Which would be fine if she hadnt collapsed like a beached seal this afternoon and showed me her extra-barbered back legs, naked like seal flippers, and her old lady broken clown horn/seal noise raspy wheek sounds very sad!
Daft old girl, still didnt want capturing for any meds but the other piggies actually helped shove her into the fleecy capture tunnel and they were all making the daft front paw paddling movements that Clover does after her buprenorphine, like telling me what to do for her, they know what she needs bless them!
But she's just not doing well, trying very hard and trying to fool us hooman predators into thinking she's ok but... no she can't function for 72 hours without buprenorphine without her back legs collapsing :(

Sending hugs 💗 bless her, it's true the companions always know, we've always found when a piggy needs something their friends tell us straight 😞 sorry she's had a bad day 😔😔

Aw poor Clover, she’s trying so hard to be strong and not letting her guard down, sending you hugs, it’s so hard for you x

Sending lots of love and hugs your way and to Clover x

Sorry to hear the Clover isn't doing too well. Sending love and hugs from me and the piggies. ❤️

Thanks everyone, Clover is doing a bit better this morning- she's doing a different walk today, ice skating like disabled Ollie pigwig often does which seems a good way of moving the back legs without putting too much weight on the joints- and I was very insistent on the meds, Clover said no but mummy said yes and it was all done and her back in the hay very quickly!
