Cleaning carpets....

I let my piggies have free-range floor time in my room, but have noticed my carpet could do with a clean. I don't want to use anything that might affect their health. Does anyone know of anything that is safe to clean the carpets with that wont affect the piggies?
 
I often use a clean sheet over an old blanket and wash it, but if I let them out on the carpet I usually spot clean where they pee with Virkon or Conficlean disinfectant. But I don't like to let them on the carpet much as it could really use a steam clean!
 
I want to clean the whole of my room, but to be honest, there isnt that much carpet on show because I have so much furniture.

I imagine shake 'n' vac and stuff like that would be quite toxic to piggies.

I would cover the floor for floor time but i dont have enough blankets or towels.
 
I spot clean with pet disenfectant and water, which works quite well, but with our bunny spraying everytime he comes out I'd imagine opur carpet is pretty much past the point where cleaning would help that much
 
Just a pet-safe hutch/cage disinfectant?
I never thought of that!
 
Yep it works a treat
But if you do it every day it starts to get expensive
 
Yeah, I bet!

Don't think I'd need to do it everyday, as the piggies are good and dont wee on the carpet.

Yeah pet safe cleaner would work! Could tip! I've currently got Eccles and Cuzzy on two sheets in the corner of my living room. My carpet is red so doesn't show the dirt up! :D

My carpet is dark green, so is quite good at hiding the dirt too. I was sat on the floor with the pigs this morning tho, and it looked much dirtier close up!
Unfortunately I ran out of cage disinfaectant yesterday, so I'll have to go and get some.
 
You could get some fleece blankets to cover your floor. They are really cheap got my pink ones for £1.99 from Bargain Madness they are really big. Or you could try a charity shop for some blankets. My mum works at Help the Aged and fetches me blankets for my piggies its great as the pigs love them and the charity is getting money as well. She even got me a pair of curtains for my piggy shed lol.
 
Thanx for all the tips! I just bought some pet safe bedding and upholstrey spray, so i'll give that a go in the morning, and I'll try the charity shops for blankets on monday. O0
 
I use bicarbonate of soda once a week over the whole carpet and leave it for 2-3 hrs. I also have carpet sqaures under my bed with towels over them, which I change soemtimes twice a day if they get wet! I also sprinkle bicarb over the squares once a week, then after I hoover it up I spray cage disinfectant liberally everywhere! If someone has an accident elsewhere in the room I use 1001 carpet cleaner to spot clean.
