I've been wondering about the colour of my two sheltie girls since the day they were born, for a very long time I thought they were both lilac, but then someone pointed out to me that Lottie cannot be lilac because she has dark eyes, which I think is true. So as far as I know Lottie is white, gold and chocolate, not lilac, but her sister Harriet is supposedly lilac due to her pink eyes, I'm not sure if this is true as both these girls are identical in colour and I have read that chocolates can also have pink eyes as well as dark, so I think they are both chocolate.

Would you agree or would you say they're different colours due to the eye colour?

(Mum was white and gold with pink eyes and Dad was lilac and gold with pink eyes)

I am just reading an italian website of a famous breeder, which explain very well all the subject about genetics and colours. But unfortunately the talk is very long and difficult! Lilac/Chocolat depends on many factors, not only the eyes, but the colour of the skin and other things... It is really difficult... If I find on the net the same page written in english I will copy the link for you.

How gorgeous ❤❤❤

No idea but I need your address to steal, I mean... Check your piggies thoroughly

They are stunning!
Haha awe, well of course I think they're incredibly beautiful but it's nice to hear others love them too! I didn't breed them but I got their Mum who was already pregnant, I decided to take her and raise the pups, she only had these two and thankfully both are girls so I got to keep them. Both of them are complete sweeties although Harriet does nip, obviously spoiled ;) She just went through a spay surgery for ovarian cysts 4 weeks ago but thankfully made it and is recovering brilliantly, Lottie is Facebook famous for her amazing athleticism, she jumps stairs and has 12.5k fans, I'm very lucky to have these two special girls, wouldn't give them up for the world although you're welcome to visit them, no stealing! :))

Lovely! I would err on the side of dark lilac. One of my pigs has patches of chocolate and is darker and less grey than these two. Lilac can come in a variety of shades and can lighten with time (one of my pigs had a lilac face that started out fairly dark grey and got lighter as she got older, until it was almost white in her old age.)

Aw bless! I may have actually seen that video actually, what a clever girl! :D

I'm glad she got through her surgery okay, must have been a worrying time for you! Sigh of relief now!

No stealing?! Well you're no fun! :))

maybe this article can help you... it seems to explain genetics subject very clearly, although for piggies things quite complicated especially when it comes to our rescue piggies who are often born after a "not appropriated" cross (but they are amazing just for this reason!)
