Hello, I would like to ask how often can I give cherry tomatoes and strawberries for two piggies.

I read that tomatoes are recommended to only give a small portion once a week not more than this, this also applies to cherry tomatoes?

Also, about strawberries, how often could I give them?

Thank you in advance!

Hello the below guinea pig food guide says tomatoes /strawberries only should only be fed once a week (due to the risk of a serious condition chelitis )
The guide gives a really good account of all foods and forage foods

What are your piggies called ? We all love seeing piggy photos 🥰

Any fruit including tomatoes should only be fed very sparingly, and no more than one type once per week.
Tomatoes are too acidic and fruit is too sugary.
If you’re going to give a cherry tomato then I personally would only give half of it.
As for strawberries, I would cut the top off and feed them the green part (with a Touch of the red) rather than feeding a lot of the red part.

For example - if you give a fruit or tomato on one day then don’t give them anything else fruit wise for the rest of the week.

Thank you! I've never given them strawberries but recently I saw videos on Instagram about piggies which love them, so I was thinking about giving to them! I searched on the internet and saw different answers, if I give them, it will only be every 15 days as I have been doing with tomatoes to vary their diet.

They are Momo and Bijou, I give Momo a slice of tomate every 15 days, because he is extremely crazy about them, Bijou doesn't like tomatoes. I found out about cherry tomatoes and thought it might be different from "tomatoes" but it looks like Momo will continue to have a little piece of tomato every 15 days haha.

Here they are 🥰 Bijou on first photo, and Momo on last.

Definitely don’t over feed tomatoes. I had a baby piggy get Chelitis. I didn’t know what it was years ago and neither did my vet. Unfortunately my little Pippin didn’t make it. 😢

I am so sorry for your piggy 💔 Pippin is now on Rainbow Bridge with my dog Sonny having plenty of fun together ♥️

Usually I give them only a small slice of tomato each 15 days. I thought the name "cherry" from tomato and it being tiny would be somewhat different from the real tomato!

I've never given them strawberries, but some videos I saw tempted me to buy them, I decided to do some research before giving them strawberries and it doesn't seem like a good idea! About the tomatoes, I only give them each 15 days, a tiny slice. Momo is crazy about tomatoes, so I thought that the "cherry tomato" would be somehow different from a normal tomato and could be given more often. I will keep giving it every 15 days to avoid any problems! Again, thank you as always for helping!

I very occasionally gave my piggies a strawberry top.
Micah loved them but the others didn’t so he ended up eating all the strawberry tops !
I had to put just the 1 under his nose.
I’ve never fed cherry tomatoes

Strawberries are ok to give sometimes but most pigs don’t like them because they are quite sour! They do love strawberry tops though, I sometimes give mine the tops with the very top edge of the strawberry still attached.

I do that and find the bit of strawberry gets left, they really don't like fruit.....
Except for melon.
It's interesting how some pigs love certain things while others hate that thing! It definitely seems to be passed on between companions as well.
I had a sow who wouldn't eat anything that had been near basil, she wouldn't even eat something cut with a knife that had cut basil. All of my previous pigs have loved grapes, I now have one that couldn't care less about them. My newest pig loves leafy things but is not bothered by other vegand fairly indifferent to pellets, not great for a pig who needs to gain 100g! (she does at least love her hay!)

I think it's @anyar.dris who has piggies that don't eat the skin off cucumber. Mine eat it first, they think it's the best bit. It's highly amusing seeing how much they can eat round a slice without dropping it!
Mine leave the juicy bit in the middle! it is particularly gross to accidentally put a hand in a bit of it while cleaning the cage.🤢

Merab hated coriander and taught her companions to hate it too.
This was fine by me as even the smell makes me feel ill.
Along came Micah who didn’t know that he wasn’t supposed to like coriander and Merab was no longer around to teach him.
He was introduced to coriander while staying with a friend when we moved house.
Suddenly all the piggies love coriander so I have to buy it for them 😵‍💫
