Good day, I have two guinea pigs with cheilitis.
I took the to the vet and she prescribed antibiotics named "Baytril". They did work for a while but now the cheilitis is back again to both of them.
In relation to the diet, I triy to limit acidic fruits like apple or tomatoes to once a week. Their diet consist mainly of grass, pepper, fennel, carrots, cucumbers, salad, and some occasional treats (products based on a variety of fruits such as bananas, pineapples...).
They have a decent quality hay, available and clean water which strangely they don't drink very often, very rarely.
The vet doesn't seem to know what exactly to do, any advice is very appreciated.
Below the 2 guinea pigs, sorry for bad quality.

Hello I’m sorry to hear about your Guinea pigs
It does look sore and uncomfortable for them
It could be worth mentioning a fungal treatment ?
as chelitis can be bacterial or virus caused
I don’t have any experience of chelitis but many experienced members on here do and I’m sure will be along to offer advice
Acidic fruits are to be avoided ie pineapple etc and carrots given rarely as they are high in sugar
What are your lovely piggies called ?
Good luck and let us know how you get on

When Red had Chelitis the vet prescribed me a cream which was applied topically. I can't remember the name (long time ago!) but it worked. It may be worth asking your vet about that. The vet also told me to cut back on cucumber as well as the usual acidic fruits/veg while he had the sores as it is also acidic.
Did they check the gum line for food residue, it won't heal if old food is stuck in the gum or round the teeth. Red had grass wrapped round his incisors.
