Canada, eh?
I bought a toy for Ivan- a little twig ball with three little peanuts inside. I bought it without knowing there were peanuts, because it didn't rattle and it didn't say. mallethead I've removed it. Is it safe for him to eat? Thanks. :) (I feel kind of stupid... @))

I don't know about piggies but I know rats can't, it's something to do with processing the protein. Rats develop sores on thier skin if they have too much protein and as piggies are rodents maybe it's the same.

Not much help really was I?

You certainly are not stupid, you are caring and sensible. You did the right thing in removing the peanuts. As another member has already said their is a danger of choking, but peanuts are too high in protein for the piggy digestion.

Sorry to bring up this thread again. I have just been to my local farmfeed store to stock up oh hay and bedding and they have large sacks of GP meusli type food. The bags were not see through, so I asked for a sample and she went away and got me some out of a bag they sell loose. It seems to have a lot of grain in it, but there are also a few (very few really) peanuts in there. Is there a definite answer to OP question, or are people just having a guess at what may or may not be right or happen. I really don't wish to cause offence, or question what people have said, but no definite conclusion here. I understand what folk are saying about fat, but there really is so very few nuts in there that they woudn't make an impact. It's the choking thing? Thanks. x

But couldn't they also choke on things like grain etc? I'm confused too Nutmeg so glad you're brought it up :)

I know peanuts are high in fat, but there are so few in the food, if this is the only reason I wasn't sure it would be a problem. One pig would probably have maybe 4 - 5 peanuts a week! x

I guess this is a good question to submit to Alcesterpig. Unfortunately, she seems to only operate on the Health and Illness, so maybe this could be moved into that section or another thread created in it?
I'm convinced she'll have the answer. Or a rodentologist like Vedra might have it too?
What do you think Graham?
