I'm preparing to change my new rescue piggies to fleece liners, and have just measured the cage they came in to find its a lot smaller than I thought :( It is 90cm x 55cm. I know that's pretty small for 2 boars, so I need to look at extending in some way.

If I was able to construct a run for them to use during the day as an extension to their cage, would that be enough? I'd have to take it down when we're home in the evenings. Or do I need to rearrange my house and invest in C&C which I see recommended lots?

I want to make sure my new boys have the right environment, so welcome any ideas! Thank you

I think I may have to. I'll have to relocate them to the kitchen, which I'm reluctant to do while they're settling in as that room isn't used as much. I had a look at the c&c grids last night and think we might have to go down that route

They need a lot more space all the time to cut down the risk of fighting .Is there any way you could rearrange furniture to accommodate a bigger space in the living room? The good thing with c&c is that you can make then any shape you want so you aren't restricted to rectangles.

Unfortunately it's a small room with a fire and we have a 4 year old, so space is tricky. I'll have another look and see what i could do.

Those grids look good. i was going to suggest a puppy pen around the cage but the grids are probably more versatile.

Look forward to seeing pictures once you have expanded their living quarters.

I think we'll be using the grids to make a cage, eventually with correx lining, and keep this cage for when they go to our friends when we're away for a couple of days. Just got to rearrange the kitchen to fit it all in...

Grids have arrived and we have a temporary extension! the boys are popcorning everywhere so i think they're happy. just got to fashion a ramp now. I've also got left over grids so I should be able to build a cage next door for them too.

Oh no... Just realised these grids have too big holes! There's 8 holes, not 9!

I'm not sure how many grids you have left over but could you cable tie your leftover grids part way along the holes to make the holes half the width? It would only make the excess length sticking out about 1cm/ 0.5inch &wouldnt make much difference to the general look of it either :)

Or put a correx/thick card strip on the insides, high enough to stop them pushing their heads through when climbing up on the sides... Not that they would reach up &beg... No,no,no not at all ;)

Congratulations on your new rescue boys. xx

Ooh yes.... cable ties! that and duct tape solve most problems! I'll try that, thank you.

I've managed to source some correx for free, going to pick up tomorrow. I know I'll have to duct tape the 2 pieces together, so am hoping Elf won't decide to get stuck to it! I know he needs a haircut but maybe not like that...

Duct tape on the underside it is ;)

You might need to stick a strip to the top/surface of the correx too.

Then any surface "water" won't leak through to the gap & into the correx air pockets below or onto the sticky side of your duct tape below.

If the bedding/fleece moves a little there won't be any gaps for guinea toes or hair to get trapped in either if tape on the surface. :)

Good point, thanks. I've just picked up the correx and it's in 3 pieces - left over bits from sign printing (but free!) so I'll need to have 2 joins. There'll be towels and fleece on top so hopefully he won't burrow. I've heard about using those file binder strips to secure the fleece if you have a burrower. Hopefully it won't be necessary!

Ooh bargain :D
We like freebies

Those binder strips apparently make good edge covers for little correx chewers too.

Looking forwards to seeing the finished product ... Home sweet home :luv:
Xx

I love your extension! I've been wanting to try something similar for my 2 girls as their cage is a ferplast 100 and I don't have room for a bigger one. Was hoping to pull the cage forward and build an extension- cat proofed!- on the back. Do people think that would work? (Sorry to hijack OP )
