Cage Production - Started Again

Hello! As some of you will know my son started to build a cage but then we both became ill.. typical. Anyway, cage production has started again only we're doing it a step at a time, my son has never made anything like this so obviously gets slightly frustrated when something messes up, if we do it one step at a time it should go right..

It's good to see someone building their own guinea pig home. Yours is very different from mine - I live in a hot climate and good air flow is essential - and I'm looking forward to seeing your finished work. Keep posting the pics.

How do you get '@Shades' into your message. I'm using my phone and can't see how to do that other than typing it out.

@Kerrie74

I see you used Fablon. Did it come in a roll or a sheet? how long do you think it will take for the smell to die down?

I'm also wondering about the glue and sealant. Do they have a particularly strong odour?

The smell had gone by the next day I believe, it comes in a roll.

Not sure about the glue yet, but you would leave it over night to dry anyway so the smell should be gone by then. Others have used it but I can't remember their names :( I would have tagged them in. I'll let you know when we do that part :) I'm hoping we do that tomorrow.

I used sth like Fablon before. it's really difficult to get it to stick perfectly, isn't it? I sprayed soapy water on the receiving item and also on the plastic. Then I could move it around to the correct position, before using a wide flexible plastic blade to remove the soapy water and create a bubble-free finish.

:D Hoping to get it done tomorrow as long as the fart from the housing doesn't take long looking at the repairs I complained about (not been investigated or fixed properly).

So it's been a bit slow with us getting ill (ill again atm) and finding out the MDF was warped, luckily @Galaxy&nibbles nibbles husband suggested a way for us to attach the back to the MDF by drilling through the MDF and into the melamine, although we did it differently and measured the holes out so we didn't split the wood. It's been sealed on both sides as well and will be tightened more when the screwdriver is charged lol

Excuse the chips on the edge, the melamine wasn't the best when we bought it.

Looking good... I don't know why but I still can't get my bottle to hang like yours :stu:

Try attaching the water bottle higher up with the supporting wire. It stays up more vertical &I find my bottle drips less like this :)
Oh &it seems to rattle less when they drink too :)
Its looking good though :nod:
Xx
