C&C help!

Making a C&C cage is the best thing Ive ever done for my piggies, is so much more open and bright for them with a lot more space. I would've thought they would be fine with the move, and more than likely love the cosines of being inside 😁

I'm from the UK and so bought most of my fleece from the Range and other bargain stores such as pound stretcher and pound world (when it was open) Ive never spent more than £4 on a fleece blanket.

Just ensure you research how to wick the fleece properly and do this before using it in the cage.
Cage liners are simply piece of fleece/towel/waterproof backing (there's different ways to make them that can be found on YouTube etc) which are already made up so you can just place them in the cage each time, for the first few months of having a c&c I did not bother with this and silly tucked the fleece round the sides of the coroplast base.
What I personally do atm is have "cage liners" of just one towel and one fleece together to fit my cage, and then I use puppy training pads underneath this for extra absorption.
I spot clean (poop scoop and pee pad change) daily, usually in the mornings, and sometimes again of a night, but this depends on how much they've pooped, also would depend how many pigs you've got in the cage. And I fully clean and change out the fleece every 4-7 days, I just kind of see how things go...
Ive never had experience of smelling, guinea pigs don't tend to smell, unless urine is left, I find it tends to dry into the puppy pads so this helps I think...

When I started my c&c cage I started with this SONGMICS 9 Cubes Metal Wire Storage... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07877YSBY?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
These are slightly smaller than traditional c&c cages, at 30x30cm, but they do the trick and are the cheapest I could find for a large number of grids! I then purchase coroplast from Wickes for around £3, for around £25 I had a large, lovely cage. I would suggest starting with enough fleece for two changes, and then you can change colours and that later down the line...

Ive tried to cover every part of your post and it seems lots of others have also shared their thoughts, I hope this all help and also Pinterest has a lot of inspiration ideas too! Good luck! And I hope your piggies enjoy their new home 😊😊😊

I'm sorry I was late to the forum and didn't read the entire thing until after this post was sent 😅🤣 never mind, I hope your piggies enjoy the new space anyway!🎉

Thanks for your reply! Question - wash bag - I understand how it saves the washing machine, but it confused me where the hair/hay then goes - does it just stay on the liner then? or is there some magic process?

The hair and hay collects in the washbag to save it accumulating in your filter and elsewhere in the machine and potentially causing a blockage. So you'd have to empty the washbag at the end. :)

By the way, I strongly advise checking what the maximum load your machine can take. Fleece gets very heavy when soaked. My old washing machine took up to 4kg but it seems that two waterlogged 2x3 liners were too much for it over time! I now wash them one at a time and my new machine can take up to 9kg. :)
