bug bites/outside?

when summer/spring time comes, i know it is possible to take guinea pigs outside on the grass in a pen for them to play and eat. is this advised? just some concerns about possible bug bites or anything... let me know

Absolutely advisable to do it! They’ll love it!
My boys live out in my shed year round and are on grass from as soon as it gets warm enough in the year for a short period of time. I then build it up slowly to get their tummies used to the grass and then by mid summer they will be on the lawn for 13/14 hours per day.

my only concern is ant bites or mosquitoes. where i am there is a lot of both, especially since we are living right next to a river. would it hurt them badly to be bit by either? because if so i just don’t want to risk it and hurt them.

Hi!

Lawn time (as long as the ground is warm and dry to your naked feet and is free of dog pee) is very much an enrichment. Grass is high in vitamin C and a valuable addition to your veg allowance, but it needs to be introduced carefully to avoid bloating or diarrhea.

Because of the fur, guinea pigs are generally better protected against insect bites.

Please take the time to read the information in these two guides here; the information can save you a lot of worries when accustoming your piggies to lawn time and literally save lives as heat can be as much of a killer as cold - we have sadly been dealing with lots of cases of heat exhaution or stroke in the last record summers.

Ants have never bitten my two piggies, nor my rabbits.
You could always out a mosquito net over their run and peg it down to the ground if you are concerned
