Bruno honking

They said they didn’t spot anything immediately wrong - she said he was actually perfect! She said it seems to be something he just gets sometimes and gave us 0.5ml of baytril twice a day for 10 days for Bruno. She said if it doesn’t get better to take him for a chest X-ray but shouldn’t be needed. Perfectly healthy as far as everything goes - she said he might have allergies to dusty hay or the carpet or something which has me wondering as well

Glad he was perfect! Hopefully the honking will stop soon then and he’ll be back to normal in no time bless him🤞 Hope he’s a good boy for his mummy with his meds! xx

he’s never ever receptive of his meds! 10 days of flailing biting and screaming for mummy xx

Glad he was okay and they didn’t spot anything. Maybe it’s some hay dust in the nose? Little is awful for it, always getting loud, noisy breathing because of the dust. It can sound like a dog barking (but quieter) sometimes to me. Simon had checked him over and said his breathing was fine, so I’m not concerned. I usually get Little out for a cuddle and after about an hour and half/two hours, the noisy breathing has gone. Maybe it’s that for Bruno? Before you give the meds, you could take him away from his cage and hay environment for an hour or two and see if things improve. If not, definitely use the meds. But since the vet didn’t spot anything, it might be worth doing before starting the treatment

the batch of hay we got this time around was a bit dustier than normal, that's the only thing I can think of that's changed, but he's had this before when the hay was ok so I'm honestly not too sure, she was telling me how it's like humans get athsma or something?

Some piggies like to sleep with their nose in the hay and some (like Little) are just extra sensitive to the dust. Piggy airways are only narrow, so the tiniest bit of hay dust can create noisy breathing. So if it’s dustier than normal, it could explain it. I wouldn’t start the baytril until you’ve confirmed it’s not the dust, definitely remove him from the cage and have him sit with you a while and see if there’s an improvement. Digby had hay dust in his nose yesterday, it worried me a bit because of the noise but after a bit he coughed and the problem was solved - just some hay dust. Peanut also once had something like this, he had noisy breathing all night into the morning. Once we got to the vets it had stopped and they found nothing so it was just some hay dust. If the vet didn’t find anything, I’d be tempted to hold off until tonight with the medication as he might cough and it’ll go, or sit him with you as being away from the dust might help too

I'll try my best to have him sat with me for a bit, he isn't a lap pig in the least and will just run around at full speed until you put him back into the cage, I'd like to add too that he was honking quite a bit during yesterday's floor time as well, he was just sat there making the noises rather than doing his usual piggy train with ozzy

Oh bless him :(
How are things now, is he just as noisy?

That’s good news, hopefully he stays quiet. Must have been some hay dust then? Fingers crossed, anyway. He might be feeling sorry for himself, but he’s lucky to have a mummy who cares so much :) xx
