Bonding a trio 2 sows, 1 neutered boar

Hope things keep going well.
Bonding Micah with 3 sows was very easy - he’d been living next to them for about 8 weeks and had already been accepted.
That is looking like a really lovely little herd. :luv: :luv: :luv:

I'm a bit worried about Womble to be honest. When they were in the pen together bonding, he was bright and doing things. However I have noticed he was towards the end of the couple/three hours he was short of napping in place. The girls were frozen also but not closing their eyes and head bobbing. (Which to some extent he has always done).

I also noticed he was drinking a bit and No one barely pooped during bonding time, however, when they went back in the cage one of them (I think Womble) did a very clunky single poop.

He has never done this before, maybe it was the stress of being out in the open. However I am going to keep an eye on him.

Would it spoil their bond if I took him out to 1. Nebulise him
2. Take him to the vet because I am a bit concerned.

Aw super news, so glad Womble is settling in with the girls x sorry can’t answer your questions 🙂

I think this is a better pig. It's like a few poops stuck together.

If you take him to the vet I would take them all together if possible. With regards the nebuliser...is it possible to put him in it but inside the cage? Otherwise if it’s part of his routine...I assume it would be okay to continue but I’m not entirely sure.

Thank you for your reply. I will try my best. :)

I could not fit them all into one crate but I am taking them in seperate crates 2 girls in one, Womble in the other and put them newto each other in the car. I didn't know what else to do.

Let us know what the vet says. 🤞🏾

The vet said all were fine and had beautiful glossy coats.

He said keep an eye on Womble however it might just be the stress of change. His chest sounded perfect and he did not head bob in front of him but as it's intermittent that's difficult to catch him doing.

The vet said track his weight, eating and poops and keep an eye on him over the weekend and get back in touch on Monday if there are further concerns.

Keep up with the nebulizer. If he consistently looses weight or has a drastic change in breathing or behaviour - maybe think about putting him under for a chest x ray but it's not something they want to do unless something seems really off.

Thanks for the update.
Hopefully as he settles with his new wives things will improve.
He’s lucky to have such an on the ball, caring owner

Thank you sometimes I worry that I overdo it. He has been ill recently so I'm always keeping an extra eye on him.
I just love him so much I don't want anything to happen to him. I know one day it's something I will have to face but I hope not for a while.

Womble is driving me to distraction. He's losing weight little by little. He's eating and he seems fine. He went from 1080 to 1060 and now he's 1038. Maybe it's our scales. But I don't know. What could it be? I might start with the critical care depending on what happens tomorrow. But he's honestly still himself, still eating well. The vet seemed to only think he was down 30 grams. I don't know anymore. I just have to make sure my boy is ok. Maybe the situation with the girls is stressing him more than I thought.

By your scales Womble has lost 42gms which is not a huge amount? I would just keep an eye on him, I wouldn’t give him CC unless he was not eating and loosing weight, he needs to chew plenty to keep his teeth in good health, if that makes sense x

Understood.
Before he got ill he was 1114 grams.
So I think that's what's panicking me.
I'm just worried about him that's all.
I'm not good at measures. It's one of my weak points and I tend to be easy to panic if it's my animals in pain or sick.
I wasn't going to cc him unless he lost a bit more weight. But him tracking down is panicking me. I only critical care when I notice he stops eating at all. So I wasn't going to critical care but was going to make sure I had some in just incase and keep an eye. Thank you for your reply and advice I'm just worried and a little anxious.

I fully understand how worrying it is when a piggie is loosing weight. I think because he has been poorly and had anti-biotics he will have lost a bit, then he’s had a successful bond too. Have you tried a bowl of porridge oats or sweet potato grated up, beetroot out if a Bistro Salad, or something else he likes that has a few extra calories. I would definitely keep weighing him and keep a record, and if it’s still going down then have a rethink with the vet if you feel there’s a health issue. the trouble with weight is unlike humans with piggies it’s easy to come off and quite difficult to put back on, especially as they get older

Thank you. I have noticed that weight is not easy to regain! I have not got any of these things in the house. Thank you for your suggestions I will look into getting them. :)
Womble is 3 and 9 months or so. I'm guessing 5 is a senior pig.

How do you 'prepare' the porridge oats?
Is there any preparation involved?
