Hi,
This is Blizz.

He is estimated to be about 7 months old. I rescued him a month ago.

This is Blaze.

I rescued him in January, and he is estimated to be about 13 months old now.

Blizz and Blaze have been living side by side for over a month now. I finally felt that everyone was settled enough to try bonding, and today is the day!

They have a 4x5 pen that I introduced them in, and all different cage layout and toys, fresh scent neutral bedding. I scattered veggies throughout the cage. They have been together now for about 2 hours. Blizz seemed to be the dominant one initially, but there was some tussle that I heard but didnt see in one of the tunnels in the first 10 minutes, and ever since he's been running away from Blaze. Blizz seems to be mostly hiding and just getting away from Blaze. Blaze a few times now will run towards Blizz and Blizz high tails it out of there. There is definitely some teeth chattering. No one has accepted any humping. Then there was a high speed tussle where Blizz made a scared high pitched squeal then ran and buried himself in the hay

I dont think anyone has drawn blood, although it's hard to tell if they've tried to bite or scratch each other.
They do take lots of breaks

This is what they are doing now.

Does Blizz hiding a lot seem normal? He seems to be pretty scared of Blaze. Should I continue letting them work it out or is this a bad sign and I should separate?

They are lovely piggies!

There should not be any hides or tunnels in a bonding pen. Adding hides means they can claim them as their own territory which can then mean issues occur if the other tries to go into one of those hides. A bonding pen should just be a pile of hay and nothing else.

I would remove everything from the pen and see what happens - be very prepared to step in and separate when you do this.
I would be erring towards this not being a compatible bonding if blizz seems to be scared of blaze and doesn’t seem to want to be with him at all.

Thanks @Piggies&buns. I removed the hides. They ignored each other for about 15 minutes, then Blaze went over to where Blizz was hiding in the hay. They had a staredown, then Blaze jumped into the bin and they had a brief 1 second piggy tornado. Then Blizz went to the other side of the cage and did his statue impression, which he has not done since his first day with me. So I decided to call it. I picked him up and gave him some cuddles and treats. I checked him over. No blood or scratches that I could find, but I did find some tufts of fur that was ripped out.
The divider is back up. I get a distinct impression that Blizz feels relieved.

I am sorry to hear your boys didn’t want to be together. I hope they have both settled back into side by side living.

(I love your tunnels!)
