Junior Guinea Pig
Hi everyone, my boy has pink urine and has lost quite a bit of weight, was 1250g now 900g (I’ve not weighed him in a while). Got vets at half 4 today, any thoughts? I’m looking to buy some recovery feed any recommendations?
Just had a look online and they are sold out worldwideMy boy also have had a few UTIs but they were very light. Something that helps him a lot with UTI is the oxbow urinary support, I give him one cookie daily and it prevents UTIs. Also when he was ill this supplement helped him to recover faster. I highly recommend them to you!
Hope the medication do its job and your piggie feels better soon.![]()
YES! is terrible!Just had a look online and they are sold out worldwide![]()
Also if I get some pro c, -shall I do that and then can I put it in both the water bottles? Will it do any harm if other boy gets some too?
So update, gizmo is a little brighter this morning, given him his meds at 6am and some mushed nuggets he had 15ml. Now eating brekkie. Just wondered what the recovery period will be like? As I think I’ve only got a couple of days of these meds. There’s no more blood stained urine but it’s difficult to tell if he’s passing urine at all (he’s in hutch with his bro). Need to weigh him today and counting down the hours until that Amazon delivery...
I’ve ordered some pro c, how would you recommend I give it then? As in quantity mixed with each syringe feed. Just if it’s only a sprinkle/small amount it’s not going to be of much benefit as it’s mostly sugaras you’re syringe feeding him anyway, then just add some of the pro c powder to his mushed pellet syringe feed, that way you can be sure he is getting it. We dont recommend adding anything to their drinking water.
(but, no it wouldn’t hurt if the other piggy got some too)
update, he’s still on the antibiotic and yesterday only had the loxicom once (my other half wasn’t sure what to do and I was at work ). His weight is static at 865g and this morning has taken his recovery feed very well. I gave him 17ml. There’s no more pink urine but it is smelly still, just wondered if I should ring the vets for a longer course of meds? I’m assuming it may run out over the weekend how long should they be on antibiotics? And does this sound like a resolving UTI, is this how it goes? Sorry for all the questions thank you. He seemed to do a squeeky wee on me this morning so I'm guessing to give the anti inflammatory twice a day
Hello, I’ve just taken gizmo for his check up. The vet said when examined he passed a large volume of sludge and advised on doing an X-ray to check for stones. So have left him there to do this and they talked about maybe performing a bladder wash out too, using a catheter or something.
he also advised to keep him off ‘the greens’ (asked if I give him lots of kale which he’s not had for over a year). He said just the occasional bit of carrot or apple he can haveWhat have I done leaving him there?
obv he’s not a piggy savvy vet and this is costing me a fortune.
I’m really not wanting to go down a surgical route if it is stones as I’ve never had good experiences with guinea pigs and surgery or rather anaesthetic and I can’t provide the intensive aftercare he will need (Feeding 2 hourly throughout the day and night).
a few days ago when his anti-inflammatory ran out i noticed a difference in him, he started staying in his bedroom more and his tummy/bottom was wet like he’s dribbling urine out In little bits. He’s still eating and I’ve been syringe feeding him emeraid sustain, his weight yesterday was 978g but the day before was 996g. I weigh him at 3pm so haven’t been able to do it today. Can anyone advise I’m quite worried.
Thank you so muchI’m sorry that your boy has sludgehopefully he doesn’t have stones @Wiebke @Piggies&buns @Siikibam @PigglePuggle @furryfriends (TEAS) hopefully one of these members can help you
Yeah although I’ve only recently just started doing it when I bought one. The veg you have mentioned above is what I feed my boys daily, I also give them basil and recently sugar snap peas (just one cut in half a day). What do you think about his suggestion to do a wash out of his bladder? Sounds horrific to meDo you filter his drinking water? Tap water especially in a hard water area contains lots of calcium. Pepper, cucumber, green beans, lettuce (except iceberg) and coriander are all safe veg that can be fed
