Blood Shot eye

I have just had Poppy one of my piggies out and noticed that her eye has a red tinge to it. She is black eyes, but one is all blood shot around the edge and looks like it has a cloudy patch in it. The other one is fine.
Does anyone know what this could be? Could she just have knocked her eye on something?

Here is the best picture i can get. Its a bit hard to see from a photo as its hard not to catch the light with the camera, but this is the best i can get.
Her other eye is just black then white at the edge but this one as this red/cloudy tinge and blood around the pupil.

She could have poked her eye somehow, that's my guess. Best have her seen by a vet.

hi jenny i agree with Wiebke looks like something has poked poor Poppy in the peeper best to get a vet to check it out - heres a pic of Mo's eye when he had been hay poked

Hi Jenny, it's likely to be an injury especially it if has developed suddenly, the cloudiness is the natural healing 'mechanism', allowing the eye to rest so it can heal quicker. Worth seeing the vet so they can ensure there are no foreign bodies remaining in the eye, but chloramphenicol-based eye drops such as Optrex Infected Eyes tend to help such injuries heal without infection.

Thanks for the replies, i was hoping it would be something relatively minor as she is eating and bouncing round!

The minute anything happens to this piggy i worry so much......from a past experience she went from being fine to so ill i nearly lost her with next to no warning!

Stupid question...... but do you mean optrex eye solution for humans!?

Yes, Optrex Infected Eyes for humans. It contains chloramphenicol so will help combat/prevent infection. If the vet gives eye drops, it's usually Fucithalmic Eye Drops (a fusidic acid based ointment), or chloramphenicol-based drops. Both fusidic acid and chloramphenicol are antibiotics, both are usually effective in treating a number of eye problems.
