Blodwen setting a new record for vet trips and vet bills!

Dear Blod,

You are close to breaking the record in "GUINEAness World Records", but we you get well soon!

Love from Clover and Stella

I’ll pop it in the post for you tomorrow.
Mine love it.
They’ll fight for the syringe if there’s any going but Priscilla and Micah don’t need it really.
Hope Blod enjoys it too.
Dear Priscilla and Micah,
Thankyou very much for sending us that huge pack of critical care! Mummy says I don't need it yet until after I see Dr Molly but that maybe we can try it out and see if I like it, and Clover and Luna can have some too when they get their old lady medicines for because they are very thin compared to me, last time we got weighed Luna is only 66% of me cos I am chubby, Dr Molly diagnosed me last time as being a Chubby Little Madam and she is an xpert!
Love and wee from Blodwen pigwig x
PS I did like that my parcel was addressed to me personally :)

Blodwen is obviously a VIPigwig because as well as a parcel addressed to her personally, she has also had a phone call from Dr Molly this morning to reassure her about her upcoming blood test :)
Dr Molly can take blood with just 5 minutes maximum of isoflurane sleepy gas and no other anaesthetics, and has no concerns doing this for Blod the VIPigwig and will also examine her lump at the same time, no urgency if Blod seems well in herself, fine to wait until piggy daddy's summer holidays so he can spend a whole day or several days if needed being Blod's chauffeur/private ambulance, then nurse/critical care chef if needed.
Feeling much better now!

Hope it all goes well for Blod on 25th 🤞Could they nick a wick to get a blood sample or do they need a bigger amount?

I'll leave that up to Dr Molly, she just saw the notes and Blod's appointment booking and case history and agreed she was able to take bloods and that there was no need to come in any sooner if Blod was maintaining weight and seemed well, waiting until we are both home all day for aftercare was a sensible idea just in case.
I would absolutely trust Molly to make the decision, that's sort of why we're going to her, I am in an awful place where I understand rather too much about all the risks and benefits and possible outcomes... if this was a theoretical case study in class with a hypothetical patient I would know just what to recommend but... this is Blod my honky little soggy bottomed funny face girl, I need somebody extremely qualified to just decide for us!

Molly is brilliant but it is different when it’s our own beloved piggy and not a hypothetical case, or another person’s piggy
Yes, you see Blod also has a little dangly polyp growth on her eyelid which is probably trivial but is growing downwards and might rub her eye and cause an ulcer... and she has that half-grape sized cyst or abscess on her back, its very superficial and loose within the skin but if it grows bigger its right over her lower spine where her back arches and will cause pressure... if Blod wasnt my precious girl and I was the vet I'd check her lungs and pee and if at all safe I'd give her the sleepy gas and pop some local anaesthetic in the lump on her back then go for the triple, eye polyp off, back lump out, proper blood sample... but that needs a bold confident fast working experienced surgeon who has correctly assessed the wheeziness, I wouldnt dare propose that for Blod but if Molly suggests it I imagine she knows it can be done!
There's such a big soppy gulf between what might be best veterinary practice long term but slightly more risky short term, and a floofy little face asking for coriander saying they are ok today :(

If not for you and Piggy Daddy, Blodwen would never have made it this far. Whatever way this goes, you've given her many extra years.

Thank you, its a tough call, she might have 6 happy months with no interventions or diagnostics then a slow painful decline and difficult decisions at the end... or she might die under anaesthesia on 25th... or survive anaesthesia and have full diagnostics and all her lumps and bumps fixed and a proper medication regime and another 2 years in fairly good health- until something else goes wrong!
The anaesthesia will be light and minimal though, no ketamine or opiates so she should wake straight up once the sleepy gas is switched off and they will have oxygen ready to bring her round. Molly must have anaesthetised thousands of rabbits and guinea pigs in a worse state than Blod, and she knows her stuff- if Blod is too wheezy she'll not risk it, she wouldnt sedate her to collect lung fluid samples when she had pneumonia because of the risk.
Blod's a happy girl though and very resilient, she's quite used to vet trips now, and she's also resolutely hefty and solid and hungry whatever happens :)
