bleeding?!

You can up it two capsules a day for the first week or for about 3 days during an acute flare if that helps getting on top of it. Long term overuse is not recommended.

In my own experience (and experimentation with IC flares in piggies of mine), upping the cystease during a flare has been more effective than upping the metacam.

fab thanks. do you find there is normally a certain amount of days the flares last? how long do you leave it until you consider it could be an infection? am emailing our vet today to discuss the plan going forward so trying to get as much info as possible!

Sterile cystitis is a whole sliding scale from the very mild to the really severe. That also goes for flares. In the mild to medium range it takes me about half a week to get on top of the acute flare symptoms once I have worked out how to deal them in that particular piggy but longer during the build up and the first few flares. I would give a flare about 10 days on raised meds initially. Since you are already giving glucosamine, you will have a bit of a head start.

In medium to more severe cases, cartrophen instead of glucosamine can help.

makes complete sense, so is it safe for me to wait to establish wether antibiotics are needed? i think i just worry leaving it half a week / ten days incase it is actually bacteria, would this not cause more pain / problems for della? i hope this makes sense.

yes i’ve heard of cartrophen thankyou, something to consider!

After five rounds it is no longer just bacteria. You have to make the jump off the cliff sooner or later or you will keep hanging on the cliff with the tips of your fingers indefinitely, unable to move forward. Yes, it is somewhat scary and not quite easy to bear.

But since you are already giving the glucosamine, the flares should be on shorter side and only amount to 2-3 days of discomfort every few months but a normal life for the rest of the time once you have finessed it. In the range you are playing in, sterile cystitis can become more of an occasional short-term nuisance rather than a long term major illness. Surely that will is worth making the jump and - more importantly - committing to it and not caving in at the first squeak?

Don't think about the height of your jump but concentrate on where you want to land. :tu:
