Hi everyone, I noticed this morning when I put the pigs veg in their cage that blackie didn't come and eat it like the rest. I looked to see where she was and she was hiding under the Hay loft facing the wall. (they've got a c and c cage) I put a bit of cucumber under there and she wouldn't touch it. I got her out shortly after to give her some metacam and some syringe feed which she tried to fight. I've done a few more syringe feeds today and tried her with a bit of parsley or dill after and she won't touch it. I'm very worried, she just keeps hiding away. I'm gonna try and get her an appointment at my local vets 4 pets tomorrow although I've had bad experiences there before, I've got no choice though. She's also got diarrhea. Not sure what could be wrong.

Aw so sorry to hear Blackie is poorly. Fingers crossed you can get her to the vets tomorrow and she recoveries quickly x

Sorry to hear Blackie is poorly. Is it runny diarrhoea or very soft/mushy poo? Hope she can be seen by the vet tomorrow.

How much and how often? Diarrhoea is classed as an emergency so I would consider contacting an out-of-hours vet. I’m sorry, they can really worry us 😣 Have you been able to get more syringe feed into Blackie?

I can't really say, I only noticed when I got her out for syringe feed. I'll be ringing vets 4 pets as soon as they open at 10.She is taking syringe feed but tries her hardest to fight it.

Hope Blackie is OK! Sorry you have had a bad experience at your Vets4Pets. The two Vets4Pets I have been to have been/are excellent.

Please have her seen as soon as necessary; runny diarrhea in guinea pigs counts as an emergency; especially if she loses the appetite and is very poorly. See a vet asap if she continues to deteriorate. She may need subcutaneous rehydration, if nothing else.

Step in with syringe feeding, follow the practical advice in the digestive issues guide link and don't get caught up in the misguided idea that only a specialist can deal with your piggy.

All the best! I hope that the poo is improving and starting to firm up again within 24 hours.

Good luck at the vets, all fingers & toes crossed here for a full & speedy recovery

Just make sure she keeps tucking into the hay, she may even chew cardboard herself to increase the fibre intake until she's more settled?

At least with your experience, vigilance &TLC it's been spotted early - hopefully she's just overindulged on the veggies.

T-Care xx

Morning @Gem789 i hope you managed to get an appointment. Fingers crossed it’s something minor and manageable.

I got blackie an appointment for 11.15.The vet isn't sure what's wrong bus as I noticed some blood in her stools this morning she's been put on baytril in case of an infection. I'm to carry on with the syringe feeding and see how she gets on over the next few days. I just put some Hay in a toilet roll tube and she's having a nibble which is good.
