I have been using Plastic water bottle from Pet at home and I notice they’re leaking, making a watery mess in my guinea pig cages.

Does anyone have a good recommend a good quality water bottle that doesn’t leak when not in use by my guinea pig?

Most of them will start to leak eventually. I find the glass ones tend to last longer and rinse better after sterilisation. I am using living world ones, they have a double ball for less leaks. These have lasted over a year with no issues so worth the extra I paid.

I think it's luck as to which actual bottle you pick up when you shop! I've tried them all over the years and had good and bad in all types. The problem I've found with the glass ones (living world) is the metal seems to be soft on the spout, I've had piggies who have chewed the ends, remodelled them and made the bottle leak. I now buy the Crystal plastic ones which seem to be the best for us. Some things I have noticed that makes them drip:-

Over tightening the top, my partner was doing this and complaining the bottles always leaked for him.

The sun coming out suddenly through the window onto the bottle.

Not having the bottle standing upright enough on the cage. The bottles are better in a holder and positioned upright inside the cage (like the glass ones) rather than the nozzle put through the cage from the outside which puts them at an angle.

A guinea pig called Brillo who turns his bottle round so the nozzle is against the bars, the ball is pushed slightly up and the water drips all over the floor. He also pushes the ball in with his teeth and lets the water run down his chin and soaks the fleece. One afternoon last week I saw the top of the bottle fly across the cage. I got across the room too late to stop a whole bottle of water I just refilled soak the cage I'd just completely cleaned out. :hb:

I use the Buttercup bottle holders after spearing my finger twice with the wire springs on the metal holders.

Not sure if you can get them where you are but I went to a farm store here in Michigan and got lixit bottles because my boys were emptying theirs.

When you flip it upside down the ball stays at the tip, so they can't empty it out

Dignified Sir George also loves this game, while making as much noise as possible using his teeth on the spout to send a morse code message to any other pigs in the area......20240914_154348.webp

I went through 5 plastic bottles from Pets At Home; every one of them was leaking pretty much from day 1. Then I bought one of the glass bottles Pets At Home also sell, which has a little carrot float in it, I've been using that one for months now with no problems.
