I know there are lots of threads about clipping nails. But what are the best type? My piggies are 8weeks & 12 weeks old. Their nails are obviously small but I want them to get used to nail clippers. I've seen the ones you get for dogs etc but I was hoping to find something smaller. Is it ok to use human nail clippers?
Many thanks

I have the scissors type & a guillotine type of small animal nail trimmer. I am too scared to use them as they just seem to open up too wide. I am terrified a pig will wriggle & I will end up cutting a whole toe off! So, I've been using the human type clippers for almost 4 years now & have managed to cut the quick only twice with my wriggly Hazelnut. Now I give him a stalk of parsley to munch on while I nail trim & he doesn't move. I can cut two nails with each parsley sprig.

I use human nail clippers. They don't open too wide so are easy to position onto the nail.

I use cattyman cat nail clippers. They're the same as the scissor type dog clippers but much smaller.

If you want to clip their nails yourself but you're unsure, book an appointment at your vets for a nurse to clip their nails and ask them to show you.

Thank you everyone. Yes I'll make an appointment with the vet to show me. I want to get my girls used to having their nails done sooner rather than when they actually need doing.
